HWP Staff Redundancies: Closing Two Depts

March 29, 2010

energy-star-appliancesReliable sources tell Bernews that as of April 30th 2010, local business Holmes Williams and Purvey [HWP] will close down their appliance center ‘Homezone’, resulting in the loss of approximately 7 or 8 jobs. Bernews understands the reason to be lack of revenue.

We also understand that their ‘Bermuda Shine’ department may also be closed, resulting in the loss of approximately five jobs, making a total of around 14 jobs lost.

We understand HWP will be attempting to move employees into other departments when possible.

The HWP group, which was founded in 1945, will continue to maintain their automobile sales and service department.  HWP employs around 150 people, making this an approximate 10% staff cutback.

This comes after news of local telecommunications company Cable and Wireless making staff redundant, and news that Bermuda Telephone Company will lay off approximately 25 staff soon.
