“RoacheKilla”: Vibe103 Will Be Successful

May 19, 2010

Showing support for his fellow artist, reggae singer ‘RoacheKilla’ sat in through the hearing in front of the Telecommunications Commission for Collie.Buddz’s proposed new radio station Vibe 103.1 yesterday.

The singer, real name David Roache, is a successful artist in his own right with his music receiving a large amount of local airplay, as well as making the BBC’s rotation and hitting the charts in Germany. He was also featured on a track on Collie Buddz’s debut album released through Sony Records. The 29-yr-old singer has performed in many nations overseas including Canada, Jamaica, Germany, Switzerland and the United States.

Video below is of his song ‘Sunrise’, which made the charts in Germany:

The singer, who has been friends with the Harper Brothers since he was 7 yrs old, strongly supports their application, and says they are bound to be successful.

He says he will be assisting Vibe 103 along its growth in any way asked, making guest appearances on the station, performing live music and more – something he hopes to be joined in by other local artists from all backgrounds and genres.

We spoke with Mr Roache afterwards and he gave his thoughts on the concerns launched by R Scott Pearman, who alongside Glenn Blakeney, is the owner of Hott107 and Magic102. Mr Roache spoke to the financial concerns expressed by Mr Pearman, providing a different point of view.

The singer by day is an actuarial analyst for Hiscox Insurance company, and has Bachelors Degree in Finance/Economics from University of Toronto. As it Twitter bio jokingly says, he is the “only reggae singing actuary” on the island.

Mr Roache said that the lowered economy shouldn’t be a barrier to entry for Vibe 103, pointing out it will provide employment and also that in come circumstances, companies will maintain, or increase, advertising spending in a recession in order to ensure they maintain market share.

He also pointed out the radio station would not come to fruition for a number of months, by which the economy could change. He called it a cyclical process, saying that certain signs within the financial sector pointed to the economy drawing out of a recession.

He spoke of Colin Harper’s attention to detail, calling him a perfectionist, and saying how much he had worked to achieve his musical success already. He said then when it comes to engineering, Mr Harper simply will not rest until the item is done to his satisfaction.

The “singing actuary” left no doubts that he is confident his fellow artist will make a success of the radio station, just as he has with his musical career. Mr Roache, like the Harper Brothers, feels there is untapped musical talent in Bermuda that Vibe 103 could help to highlight.
