“If A Fugitive Can Use Technology, So Can You”

Crimestoppers BermudaThe text below is from Crimestoppers Bermuda:

If a fugitive can use technology, so can you …

HOW DO YOU THINK the families and friends of victims that have been MURDERED or injured through gun violence must feel when reading/hearing this in the media … whilst this individual is apparently being sheltered by persons within our community!

What does it take to make people TALK …

When a person has been before the Court for gun offences, escapes and is now in hiding within our community, SOMEONE is hiding him. That person sheltering the FUGITIVE could be said to be more guilty of ‘PULLING THE TRIGGER” than the individual accused and before the Courts.

If a fugitive can use technology, so can you. Crimestoppers Bermuda is offering a reward for the capture of Alvone Maybury to answer gun related criminal charges. It is an offence to knowingly harbour a fugitive from justice and persons found guilty of this offence may face a fine and/or prison. Maybury is hiding amongst us. You have the ability to assist in his apprehension and be rewarded for your assistance. Use our confidential hotline 800-8477 (TIPS) or web tip service www.crimestoppers.bm and make a difference.

Crime Stoppers Bermuda with the support of the Concerned Business Community would like to remind the public that their is a substantial reward of up to $100,000 that can be paid out to any individual who gives information on ANYONE involved in gun offences that leads to an arrest and conviction of such an individual or the seizure of firearms”.

The local charity Crime Stoppers Bermuda is the only organization in Bermuda to ‘give the community the opportunity to report any crime completely anonymously either by telephone or web-tips’.

Over the last few months people who ‘know what is going on’ have been coming forward in relation to reporting information on gun offences. Unfortunately, due to Crime Stoppers Bermuda code of confidentiality and safety of our callers, we cannot report on our immediate successes, but the programmes Chairman – John Drew states the following:-

“Making a simple call or utilizing our web-tips on the Crime Stoppers website to pass on information takes no time at all… it is completely confidential, but can help resolve stressful moments to individuals who may be involved with the escaped fugitive. He will be apprehended but don’t YOU be the one apprehended with him. People are taking… so do the right thing and call Crime Stoppers Bermuda.”

Crime Stoppers wish to thank the community who have already called 800-8477 (TIPS) or sent web-tips www.crimestoppers.bm and encourage anyone else with any little bit of information to, “JUST MAKE THAT CALL. WE WILL NEVER KNOW WHO YOU ARE AS WE REALLY DON’T WANT TO KNOW, WE JUST NEED THE INFORMATION TO HELP SOLVE THE CRIME”

  1. Person of Interest says:

The fact that this guy is still out there, with a reward on his head, and being protected by who knows who, is not only embarrassing beyond believe to all Bermudians – but also an indication of how much trouble Bermuda is in. The gang culture is obviously much more deep seeded than anyone knew. This is a wake up call for all of Bermuda. It is beyond pathetic that our police can’t find this guy – and beyond scary that nobody will talk. Bermuda is in deep trouble.

  2. Margaret says:

so I’m guessing he did not in fact turn himself in last night as he stated he would

  3. Bri says:

I have a question, aren’t prisoners being escorted to and from court are supposed to be handcuffed with their arms behind him? Especially one that is up for fire arm offences?? Someone wasn’t paying attention that day huh?? In that regard this ‘lil boy’ surely made a fool of the police, that he was able to not only escape and out run the police, but they still can’t find him. It is quite embarrassing as a Bermudian to read about this whole saga on Yahoo news.

Shame on the person who is harboring this ‘Facebook Fugitive’. No one is worth going jail for. NO WAY!!

God Bless our Island we call home.

  4. Why Bother? says:

Here’s the problem with the reward offered…

“a substantial reward of up to $100,000 that can be paid out to any individual who gives information on ANYONE involved in gun offences that leads to an arrest and conviction…”

    There it is… “…and conviction…”

When was the last time somebody was actually CONVICTED?!?!

  5. Cin says:

With all of this new technology – can’t the Cell phone companies/Telco trace the location of the phone.

I was in a cellphone store recently with a friend and an officer of the law came in to do business – he had no idea of phone no or name of user…. song came to mind – bad police, bad police what you gonna do, what you gonna do when the bad boys run out on you.

Police have been given powers to knock down doors, trampel on your flower beds – why not get tough and shackel offenders going to court for serious crimes and related offences. I understand there were three runners – what were the other two going to court for and why did they run.

  6. Pro police says:

This island is going downhill rapidly. I do believe it all started around the time that this government came into power…coincidence?? Hmmm… How about we spend less time having our picture taken with powers around the world and spend more time at home where the attention is really needed.
On another note..People want to blame the police for banging in “innocent people’s” doors….let me tell you…they wouldn’t be going through any door if they didn’t have a reason. I’m sorry, but if you have a connection to a fugitive (with gun possession charges no less) then you can expect to be investigated! To avoid confusion- help the police, don’t hinder! To put a stop to “innocent people”‘s privay being invaded, how about someone steps forward- seems easy to me…then again- I’m not harboring a fugitive!!! DISGUSTING!

PS Bri- the police weren’t leading him…prison officers were!

  7. Not Surprised!! says:

@Pro Police: Yes the police have a right to investigate any person(s) of interest in which they believe has involvement in any crime, but there are ways of going about things. Every situation doesnt require a forceful attack. Especially if you’re looking for the help of those who’s doors you’re kicking in.

Number one, nothing was done correct from the beginning in the transport of this individual. As Bri said, why wasnt he cuffed from behind? Where the hell was his shackles? Could he have looked more casual than he did? I thought prisoners whore bright “Prison Looking” attire. And last but not least, the prison guard did not continue his persuit on the guy? Everything just seemed too laxy daisy if you ask me.

Number two, I think it was rather idiotic to go to the home in which the accused was living two years prior to this incident. Did they REALLY think that he would be there?? REALLY?! Whilste they wasted time (As Usual) breaking and entering, the fugitive was in another parish.

Number three, That very day, he began making posts via a mobile phone; updating his facebook status’. Ummm, why havent the police gone and kicked down all cell phone providers doors? Couldn’t they be of some help in this issue; considering the law was passed that police have the ok to invade our privacy? HELLO??!! Oh and wait a minute, did he or did he not call in to Bermuda Broadcasting Station and basically TELL THE POLICE what he’s going to do? Correct me if I’m wrong…

Number four, ITS DAY 3 GOING ON DAY 4 AND HE STILL HASNT BEEN CAUGHT AFTER MAKING PHONE CALLS, UPDATING STATUS’ AND TELLING THE AUTHORITIES WHAT HIS PLAN IS!! AND YOU STILL DONT THINK THE POLICE ARE TO BLAME?! LET’S PUT EWART BROWN ASIDE RIGHT NOW AND LOOK AT THIS SITUATION FOR WHAT IT REALLY IS. EVEN IF EWART WAS HERE, WHAT THE HELL WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE ON HIS BEHALF FOR THIS INDIVIDUAL TO BE BACK IN CUSTODY NOW? WHEN HE IS HERE, HE DONT DO SQUAT! AND HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU THINK REALLY KNOW WHERE THIS GUY IS? YOU HONESTLY THINK THIS GUY IS CALLING ALL HIS BRETHRENS AND SISTRENS AND FAMILY TO TELL THEM HIS WHEREABOUTS RIGHT NOW?

So in conclusion to your statement Mr. Pro Police, It is up to the authorities right now to catch this guy and YES we as the public are holding them accountable for this incident. It seems as though the police act on serious crimes at their own risk because they like us, also fear for their lives. They need to either change their motto or add one word. “To Protect and Serve Ourselves”…

  8. Bri says:

@ Pro Police. My apoligies for my mistake.

I am reading today that they were given a warning that Alvone was going to take the first chance he got to escape. Whomever it was that cuffed him to the front, knew better. POINT BLANK. @ Not Surprised…you raised further good points. His clothing??? and shackles???….what happened there?? Seems a lil fixed to me.

I’m sorry but it irks me when Bermudians make off that ‘Police are not doing their job, they need to do more’….blah blah blah. But when they are doing their job and barge into the home of the Swan family, the police are pointed to as the bad people. Its unfortunate that they were still grieving thier loss. BUT the police had a potential lead and went with it. Its sad how they went about it however it is what it is. At least they are doing something.

I don’t even wanna make mention of ‘our’ Premier. SIIIIIIIGH!!

He (Alvone) puts the blame to the prison officers of how the way he was treated in prison. From what I gather prison isn’t supposed to be a walk in the park, reason as to why you wouldn’t wanna go there in the first place. But he is in there because of bad decisions he made and he is mad at how he is treated which is he reason for escaping custody in the first place. WHATEVER!!

To be so brazen to talk to investigators, go on FB and put his whole life out there clearly for entertainment purposes. He goes on to say ‘I hope someone pops me in my face’ This is the father of a lil one talking. Goes to show where his mind at.So sad! I just hope it all ends peacefully…..soon!
