Police & Regiment Rescue Teen Sailor

Around 9:30pm last night (July 29), the Police Marine Unit received a report of an overturned sailboat off the North Shore in the area of Admiralty.House. Marine Unit officers as well as soldiers from the Bermuda Regiment’s Boat Troop responded in Police vessels and commenced the search for the solo sailor, a 17 year old young man.

Using flares and with the assistance of Bermuda Radio, the Police vessels located the teenager and brought him onboard one of the rescue vessels. His sailboat was secured to one of the oil docks’ mooring buoys and the 17 year old was transported back to Marine Unit headquarters uninjured.

The 17 year old young man was apparently wearing a life jacket at the time and managed to stay with his capsized sailboat. He is also said to be an experienced sailor, who helped rescuers find him by shouting and whistling.
