Road Safety Council: Helmet Exchange

July 10, 2010

The Bermuda Road Safety Council has set out to get bike riders to wear safer helmets and will be holding a Helmet Exchange at City Hall on July 16th, from 12pm to 2pm.

Riders turning in their old helmet will receive a 20% discount voucher towards a new “approved” helmet of their choice from one of the participating dealers; HWP Group, Cycle Care, Oleander Cycles, and The Bike Place. “It is important that the helmets worn will protect you when you need it the most” explained David Minors, Road Safety Officer.

Mr. Minors has provided tips of when a helmet should be replaced:

  • If it were involved in a crash, it would have probably absorbed the shock impact, thus requiring
    replacement.
  • Every two to four years. If it shows signs of damage before then, replace it sooner.
  • If it is dropped or have a crack, dent, or severe scratches
