The Bermuda National Womens Hockey Team finished 8th at the 2010 Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The team consists of: Ryanne Bardgett, JoAnn Bielby, Francesca Cacase, Jennifer Chisnall, LaKae Dill, Marcia Ford, Constance Francis, Latonia Fray, Helen Marshall, Jasmine Patterson, Raven Pearman, Keishae Robinson, Iman Smith, Elizabeth Stewart, Catherine Stubbs, and Alexandra Wheatley.

A report from the Hockey Manager follows below:

The Bermuda National Ladies Hockey Team faced off against the host nation Puerto Rico on Friday in the last game of their CAC tournament looking for a convincing win. Bermuda started strongly and penetrated Puerto Rico’s circle in the first minute thanks to Iman Smith’s good work. In the 18th minute Bermuda were awarded a penalty corner and after the initial shot on goal Lakae Dill’s follow up shot came down off the cross bar and appeared to cross the goal line but Bermuda were not awarded the goal.

Bermuda paid the price for poor defending in the 30th minute when Puerto Rico took a quick free hit, entered the circle and scored a field goal. 3 minutes later a penalty corner strike by Bermuda’s Keishae Robinson just missed going in at the near post.

In the second half Bermuda pushed numbers forward and in the 60th minute Lakae Dill’s shot flew past the opposing keeper’s right post. With 5 minutes left in regulation time Bermuda substituted their goalkeeper for an additional field player and gained 4 penalty corners. However, none of these were converted and the game ended 1-0 in favour of Puerto Rico.

With the final whistle a disappointed Bermuda team left the field knowing that the results in this tournament did not reflect the tremendous effort and fighting spirit the 16 strong team put into this competition. Bermuda finished the tournament in 8th place.
