Bermuda Wins Caribbean Youth Tennis Title

christopher regoIn what was nothing short of an outstanding showing from Bermuda’s teenage tennis players, they traveled to Curacao and captured the overall Caribbean Title, first and third place in the boys, and second place in the girls. Youth tennis players from 14 islands were represented at the ITF 13 & Under Caribbean Development Championships 2010 in Curaçao.

Players from Jamaica, Bermuda, Aruba, Antiqua, Bahamas, Barbados, St Vincent, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands, Guyana, Suriname, Dominica and the Netherlands Antilles all participated in the tournament, which saw Bermuda win top honours.

Bermuda’s Chris Rego [pictured] was crowned the Boys Champion, with fellow Bermudian James Finnigan finishing third. Eva Frazzoni finished second in the Girls Division, while Taylor McHarg finished thirteenth.

Those results saw Bermuda finish on top of the ITF 13 & Under Caribbean Development Championships 2010 Nation Standings with 36 points, thus defending the title they won last year. Bermuda finished seven points ahead of second place Barbados and Bahamas finished third with 18 points.

    Awesome tennis by these youngsters made all the more exciting by the start of the U S Open this week. You can’t help but see some of these young people there on the rosters in the future!
