Called Off: 2010 Round The Island Boat Race

August 14, 2010

The 2010 Round the Island Powerboat Race scheduled for tomorrow [Aug 15] has been called off due to unsafe seas, and the expected weather conditions.

Today the Bermuda Weather service issued a small craft warning valid from tonight until tomorrow evening; small craft warnings are issued when winds of mean speed 20 to 33 knots and/or seas of 9 feet or greater are forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.

The course of the popular annual race was scheduled to encompass the following areas; Ferry Reach, North Shore, Two Rock Passage, Hamilton Harbour, Granaway Deep, Port Royal Bay, Great Sound, Commissioner’s Point, Fort St. Catherine’s Point and St. David’s.

We are not aware of any further details, such as possible new date, but will update when able.

The Becks Around the Island Seagull race is on Saturday, August 28th. Past races have had upwards of 65 boats enter to race so look out for a little bit of Bermudian culture if you’re on the water or near to the shoreline on raceday.
