Two Athletes Make Finals In Singapore

August 19, 2010

Both local track and field athletes have made the finals at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore. 16-year-old sprinter Jeneko Place completed his first round in the 200m, placing 4th in his heat with the 5th fastest time therefore he is in the “A” final. Taylor Ashley-Bean completed her first round in the 1000m, placing 8th in her heat and making the “B” final. The finals for both events will be held on August 22 and 23rd.

Bermuda Track and Field President Donna Watson explained the procedures saying:

To explain the “A” ,”B” & “C” finals. They take all of the times from the first rounds and they are placed in heats based on their times. The fastest 8 times are placed in the “A” finals which would be the medal placing race and then following from there the next 8 in the “B” and the next in the “C”. This is for the 200m. Therefore Jeneko has the 5th fastest time overall in the 200m. He didn’t have a good lane for the race, the outside lane, did not run his best time 21.76 so should have a better lane, hopefully and run a faster time in the finals. The final is scheduled for Sunday August 22nd.
