U/17 Football: Cuba Beats Bermuda 3-1

August 18, 2010

Bermuda’s U17 World Cup qualifying team went down to Cuba in their first of three matches in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) World Cup qualifier being played in Trinidad & Tobago. Their first match was against Cuba, who scored three goals by the half to lead 3-0 at halftime. Bermudian Zeiko Lewis scored for Bermuda in the 75th minute of play, which was the last goal scored and saw the game end 3-1.

The starting line up against Cuba was Dale Eve, Shakeil Burrow, Kamau Leverock, Jair Minors, Shakhai Trott, Tre Ming, Jevon Swan, Zeiko Lewis, Mauriq Hill, Chikosi Basden and Quintonio Lema. Bermuda will play their second match against St. Kitts & Nevis on Friday, August 20th at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Trinidad & Tobago starting at 3pm.

After the game Head Coach Devarr Boyles said:

I think we made a number of mistakes, and Cuba took advantage of our errors. We gave up to many goals in the first half. This was a mental aspect that allowed Cuba three goals. During the second-half we profited from making fewer mistakes and therefore, we scored our lone goal. We played more of technical second-half. From this we moved the ball around the field and helped our passing game. Unfortunately, we were unable to pounce on a few more opportunities. Our goal came in the (75th) minute of play from Zeiko Lewis. We played a better second-half, from this performance; we will now take this second-half performance against St. Kitts on Friday.
