Delegation To Promote Island In Canada
Starting tomorrow [Sept 13] the Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT], hoteliers and Bermuda Hotel Association [BHA] members will embark on a three city tour promoting the Island as a premier vacation destination.
Over the next week, the Bermuda delegation is scheduled to meet with over 300 travel agents and meeting planners in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. The meetings will incorporate presentations, and performances by local entertainers. Events start tomorrow in Toronto and continue on through Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday the contingent takes the event to Ottawa and Montreal respectively.
In recent months, the BDOT has been marketing to the Canadian consumer, with events prior to this tour including pink Bermuda-themed street cars in Toronto, and a luncheon for several members of Canada’s media outlets last month.
Tourism Director William Griffith said today, “We continue to focus our attention on the Canadian region, because part of our long term strategy is to significantly tap into this market.” Mr. Griffith continued, “We want people in these cities to know about the vacation treasures that await them in Bermuda, and our message this week is simple.
“Bermuda is easy to get to with a two and a half hour flight, its natural beauty is beyond compare, we have some of the friendliest people in the world, we have a first class golf product and during the late summer months we have some of the best events, such as the PGA Grand Slam of Golf and the Bermuda Music Festival taking place. And when all combined, it makes Bermuda a must visit destination for Canadians.”
This week’s Canadian Road Show will be followed by a travel agent site visit to the Island between September 23 and September 26, with 65 top agents from the region participating.
Also being launched this week will be a travel agent incentive designed to drive more business to the Island. Any agent booking more than 18 room nights at hotels between now and March will get a free trip to Bermuda.
