Premier Announces He Will Fund India Trip

September 9, 2010

from wiki Ewart_BrownPremier Dr Ewart Brown announced last evening [Sept 9] that he will be “personally covering the costs associated with his October visit to India.”

It is not clear what prompted the decision or announcement, however the Premier said, “Wanda and I have reconsidered and decided that this will be a personally funded trip. Simply put, we will pay for the airfare, transportation and accommodations associated with the India trip. Despite this, I will continue to do the people’s business, ensuring that Bermuda’s interests are pursued and every avenue explored for the benefit of Bermudians.”

The Premier also touched on his wife’s travel costs saying “Let’s be clear, Wanda has always paid for her personal transportation, a policy that deserves to be reviewed in the future.”

The Premier’s delegation to India will include Minister of Environment, Youth and Sport Glenn Blakeney; and Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Youth and Sport Ms. Ellen Kate Horton. Bermuda is expected to field a team of athletes in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in disciplines including athletes, aquatics, and shooting.

The 4 day visit is scheduled for October 4th – 9th 2010, and the Premier’s office said it “will involve attending the Commonwealth Games, signing the TIEA agreement between India and Bermuda, and talks with business leaders and film executives.” It will be one of the last official trips the Premier makes before stepping down next month.
