Third Time Trying: 2010 Round The Island

September 1, 2010

Hoping the old adage “third time lucky“ holds true, the 2010 Around the Island Race is scheduled for this coming Sunday (Sept 5). The race has been cancelled twice before; having originally been scheduled for August 15, called off due to the weather, and then expected to take place on Aug 29th, which was again called off due to the weather.

The Bermuda Powerboat Association said that all persons who have agreed to act as Race Marshals must attend a meeting on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Spanish Point Boat Club Hall to go over instructions and to receive equipment. All Race Teams who have registered for the Around the Island Race must attend the mandatory drivers meeting on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Spanish Point Boat Club Hall. Scrutinizing of all race boats and equipment will be held on Saturday, September 4th, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Ferry Reach, and failure to show up during the designated times will result in penalties being applied.

As of today, the Bermuda Weather Service is forecasting that Sunday will be “Mostly cloudy with occasional showers, chance thunder, winds southeasterly strong.“ Should bad weather strike again, the rain date is Sunday, September 12th, 2010.
