Incoming President Mr. Dale Jackson said

On my first day as President, I would firstly like to thank the Bermuda Basketball Association (“BBA”) for giving me the opportunity to serve them in this capacity. I have always been passionate about Basketball, and my experiences with the BBA to this point have only fuelled that passion. In the hours since, I took over this post I have been overwhelmed with the showing of enthusiasm and energy, by members and supporters alike, towards the advancement of Basketball in Bermuda. I want to unify our association, so I’m willing to work with anyone to accomplish this task. If you have any ideas to move BBA forward together contact me Djackson@gov.bm.

The outgoing members of the Executive have done an excellent job over the last few years and I am exceptionally grateful for the contributions they have made and the dedication they have shown to the BBA.

With the groundwork laid and the talent that exists in our current players, I believe now is a very good time for Basketball in Bermuda. Simply put, it’s game time. We have spent too long on the bench of Bermuda sports and I believe we have all the necessary ingredients to push ourselves to the forefront.

Having had the opportunity to run various junior and youth basketball programs over the last ten years, I know there is immense talent and interest on the island. To that end, I would like to announce the re-establishment of The School of Excellence, which will teach young Bermudians the fundamental skills of Basketball starting at the Primary and Middle School levels.

I have high hopes for the BBA and the Executive team who will be working hard to ensure the success of Basketball in Bermuda. I believe we have an outstanding Executive Team. I am only as good as the men and women that serve with me as members of the BBA.

The new committee would like to announce the following:

  • 1. In November, Mr. Richard North will be starting a women’s program called “Friday Night Lights.” This program is designed to increase the participation of women in the sport in Bermuda and encourage the development of this pool of talent.
  • 2. The Premier League (PBL) will be under the direction of Mr. John Lee. Mr. Lee has also been charged with the directive of reincorporating the Recreation League, so as to not leave out anyone interested in playing basketball.
  • 3. The National Program will continue to be under the Direction of Mr. Greg Todd, ensuring that the best players in Bermuda are exposed to the sport on an international level and that Bermuda maintains its championship level status.

For anyone interested in basketball feel free to email bermudabasketball@gmail.com for information about upcoming leagues and/or initiatives.
