Bermuda Now 170th in FIFA Rankings

October 22, 2010

In the latest FIFA rankings released yesterday [Oct 20], Bermuda has fallen to 170th in the world. Due to inactivity, the island dropped 7 places from the previous rankings. Our highest ranking ever was 84th in 1993, and our lowest was 185th in 1998.

The rankings were introduced in 1992, and six teams [Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and Spai]) have held the top position, of which Brazil have spent longest ranked first.

A point system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of FIFA-recognised international matches. Under the existing system, rankings are based on a team’s performance over the last four years, with more recent results and more significant matches being more heavily weighted to help reflect the current competitive state of a team.
