Bermuda Institute Wins Butterfield Challenge

Butterfield hosted the second annual Butterfield Student Challenge this month at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, and Bermuda Institute walked away with the top prize, with MSA in second and Cedarbridge Academy placing third.

The Butterfield Student Challenge showcases some of Bermuda’s most talented high school students via a business case solution competition.

Six local high schools entered teams comprised of some of their most business savvy students to act as consultants for a fictitious family who require financial services and products tailored to meet their respective needs.

Each team was required to produce a detailed financial plan and present its proposal to a panel of six distinguished business leaders that included Challenger Banks’ CEO and former Premier Sir John Swan and President & CEO of Butterfield, Bradford Kopp, as well as: Butterfield’s EVP, Bermuda Wealth Management, Curtis Dickinson; Butterfield’s EVP, Head of Bermuda Retail
Banking, Sean Lee; VP and Head of Consumer Credit at Butterfield Shawnette Griffin; and AVP, Operational Risk Management, Michelle Malpas.

The six competing schools were: the Berkeley Institute, Bermuda High School, Bermuda Institute, CedarBridge Academy, Saltus Grammar School and Mount Saint Agnes Academy. The three finalists were:

Third place: CedarBridge Academy;

Sir John Swan said: “I congratulate the students on their magnificent performances. Events like this help sow the seeds of Bermuda’s future success.” The winning teams won cash prizes.

    I’m glad at least one BI is producing high flyers. Unlike WA, It’s ashame that the other BI didn’t go private when the opportunity was there. That BI has now lost its academic advantage.
