Kim Swan On New Cabinet Appointments

November 1, 2010

[Written by Kim.Swan, Leader of the Opposition] On behalf of my colleagues in the United Bermuda Party, I want to extend our best wishes for the success of the Government.

I know many will question our sincerity in this, but we do so for the sake of the Bermudian people. They deserve better government.

Bermuda is not working for many today. We see it in spreading joblessness, shrinking paycheques, street shootings, collapsing tourism, billion-dollar debt and the continuing failure to reform education.

The case for a change in government is compelling.

Unfortunately, today’s Cabinet shuffle will not give Bermuda the change it needs. This is the same tired group that has presided over a period of unprecedented national decline.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Premier’s decision to continue as Minister of Finance, despite an atrocious six-year record marred by soaring debt, uncontrolled spending and ethical failures.

The United Bermuda Party is prepared to work with the Government to get Bermuda back on track. We have talented people who are committed to getting Bermuda working again. We will push reforms to strengthen government accountability, transparency and fairness. We will push plans to reduce government spending, strengthen the economy and grow jobs.

There is much to do. Bermuda depends on it.

Blah, blah, blah, blah! Same old stuff from the same old guard, still out of touch and without a clue as to how to be “in touch”. How about something new and refreshing to share?

Correct me if I’m wrong but whom else would have been in the “new cabinet” besides current members of the PLP? Exactly who would have been acceptable to the UBP, BDA, and all the other group members whose “real” agenda is so plainfully obvious?

Mr. Swan, you need a new speech writer with new material!

    I SEE you!!!

    • Call as it is says:

You might well be right, but it WONT be you!

    • Toni says:

You infer that the BDA might have another “real” agenda…as it’s so “painfully obvious” to you – I am curious if you can qualify this statement?

  2. terry says:

    Nothing like the ’19th’ Hole.

Vah? Vah? Whooooze rahn his hit…………………………

  3. Dragging A Lure says:

    Kim,
If there is talent in your party why are you The Leader? Words are cheap, your party’s background illustrates how they behaved toward the majority of people in this island. Continue to preach to the converted. Try to keep them from moving to the BDA.
    Cheers

    • Mark Pettingill says:

Even the coverted should face reality and move to the BDA, all of the PLP fence sitters that know we need to put Country first should make the needed change as well…the Cabinet and Senate choices sepak volumes !

      • Dragging A Lure says:

        Hi Mark,
You’re great, shovelling dirt in the trenches with the small man!!!!. Glory your spirit but I see a wolf in sheep’s clothing. “The cabinet and senate choices sepak volumes” is a replica of Kim Swan’s statament. Once a UBP er allways a UBP er. tell by your arguement and voting record. I get to have a discussion with a lawyer without being charged. Keep coming. Hahaha. Make my day.

        Cheers

        • Dragging A Lure says:

I forgot to be totally honest with you Mark. The last time I had to pay a lawyer for advise it cost me 2 pounds sterling. The cost that the lawyer charged me was more than the one & thruppence that Minty fined me for overtaking a horse drawn carriage carrying ice from PW’S to the old UBP’s headquarters at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club while riding my brand new VELOSOLEX. The discussion at RBYC was based on how to maintain the Status Quo on Education, Segregation, Finance Stability, Housing, UBP’s secret policy on Membership & Reward, Transparency, Contracts and most important Term Limits which offers voting and Bermudian Status to those that will keep us in power. The present UBP and surrogates BDA still believe in those principles.

          Please forgive me

          Cheers

            To Bernews,
With respect to your Code Of Conduct practices, which was unintentionally breached by Dragging A Lure, I would like to take this opportunity to delete the name of PW’s to a business that no longer exist. Delete Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and change to a prominent waterfront club located in Hamilton. Delete the name of the magistrate regarding the fine.

            Appreciate your full co-operation
            Cheers, From A Honest Contributor.

        • Mark Pettingill says:

Cheers Draggin…thanks for the chuckle. As Plato said, the essence of wisdom is to recognize your own ignorance. You clearly have not followed my voting record nor what I have done and said in the House, as for once a UBP er again you clearly either choose to forget my history and what I did when i quit the party or just dont care…and that frankly sounds like a typical PLPer, dont worry about the facts just spout the rhetoric. All cool but maybe wise up…and that advice is completely free!
          Have a great day!

          • Dragging A Lure says:

            Mark,
Thanks for the free advise. Will take heed. Love Plato!!!!. I think that the essence of wisdom is to recognise your own ignorance is a beautiful statement. Will borrow Plato’s words and use them in the future.
            Thanks again.
See you on Friday with your imaginary cabinet and don’t forget to keep your sleeves rolled up while shovelling dirt in the trenches.

I’m catching Bigger & Brighter Fish (Excellent Bait) Funny

            Cheers

      • rob says:

When you become Premier the safest thing to do is appoint senators that will guard you against your fellow Bermudians,Premier Brown did it with Thao Dill, and now Premier Cox has done it with 2 individuals,WOW! I AM PROUD! that could have been me! so work hard everyone you can do it!

  4. terry says:

Douglas….reach out and touch sombodys hand………forget about the $5.00 bill. You’ll get yours,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  5. White Jesus says:

“I know many will question our sincerety in this……this is only for the sake of Bermuda and not any particular party……….cough…..as I was saying….. er The UBP……..

  6. King Solomon says:

Hi Bermuda, it’s ya mate Kim here. Now….I know you will question my sincerety in this, but I honestly thought that a reshuffle of cabinet meant that they would not be PLP members. You know, like how a deck of cards is reshuffled, do they actually use the same cards in de deck? Er, um, now, I know you’ll question my intelligence on this, but I’m not actually working with a full deck and that’s why you can count on the UBP to always have all hands on deck so you when de hands are dealt……….Um wait, “CUT” lets try that again from the top, stop typing…. “It’s posted already??” “%$@&” “I hate this new age”

    • No Clue says:

Bwaahahahahaha and then he falls out into a tantrum on the floor kicking and screaming, smashes the computer and calls Grant Gibbons. [Kim]“Grant I can’t do this anymore ‘sniff’ find a new face for the UBP bie (crying, snot coming out nose)” [Grant] “Now look Kimmy, we’ve been over this time and time again, it’s gonna pay off and you’ll be compensated, just hang in there ok, you can do this!” [Kim] “Ok I feel better, but let’s try things my way and see how it works (querying tone)?” [Grant] “No”

  7. m_m says:

wow is kim swan mentally challenged?

  8. Sandgrownan says:

IF any of the PLP apologists think this is a good cabinet then you are severely challenged.
Smith at education – well she failed over 12 years ago, and he successors have failed too.
Cog at finance? Well, we all know how that’s been going.
DeSilva at health? Are you kidding me? A guy from the construction industry just before we build a new hospital with borrowed money.
A vindictive homophobic racist in the senate. (Wonder how the Colonel likes that – or better, would she rent him an apartment?).
    It’s the same tired, incompetence.

    • Dragging A Lure says:

      Sandgrownan,
The discussion is on the sincerity and intelligence of Da Leader from the UBP to make a contribution that will advance this island forward. Same ole same ole from him. Who would you prefer? Name your party and cabinet.

      Cheers

  9. S says:

Sandgrownan…. You and Kim should hang out .. Go follow Grant!

    • Sandgrownan says:

Time will tell, but I predict a massive amount of fail with this bunch of incompetents and misfits. Cog had a massive opportunity to make a difference, instead it;s more of the same.

She also flat out lied during her first speech as Premier. She said that she have never “shirked the tough decisions”. Oh yeah? How does she square that with her previous comments about being a Cog, unable to override Ministers (untrue by the way)?

  10. S says:
