Minister Honours Delta Airline Employee

December 13, 2010

The Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors this week recognised the dedication of one of Delta Airlines’ longest serving employees.

Beverley Oakes has been flying to Bermuda for 31 years. She was brought to the Minister’s attention after a member of the public wrote to her expressing his positive experience with the flight attendants.

John Swift explained in a letter that as a frequent flyer on Delta’s Atlanta-Bermuda route, he was often greeted by Mrs. Oakes. He went on to write that “…During a conversation with Bev Oakes I learned that she nowonly flies the Atlanta – Bermuda – Atlanta route, as she loves Bermuda so much. Indeed her announcement when the plane is about to take off sums it up – ‘Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is Delta flight 656 bound for Beautiful Bermuda’. I doubt you could find anyone more appreciative of Bermuda.”

And on Saturday (Dec.11), in recognition of Mrs. Oakes’ service, Minister Minors presented the veteran attendant with a Certificate of Accomplishment, a set of crystal glasses engraved with the island of Bermuda, and a framed copy of Mr. Swift’s letter.

Minister Minors said, “This kind of recognition certainly doesn’t cost us much in the way of time and effort. However it’s lasting effect is something that is priceless. And this weekend, I was thrilled to have an opportunity to meet Mrs. Oakes in person and extend the Ministry’s thanks for all she does on behalf of Bermuda tourism. It’s my hope to continue to recognise those individuals who go that extra mile to make a positive contribution to our overall tourism product.”
