Concern Grows For 72-Yr-Old European Sailor

January 23, 2011

The family of a 72-year-old sailor is concerned for his welfare after he left Bermuda in September of last year and has still not arrived at his European destination four months later.

The yacht Oberig [pictured below] arrived in Bermuda on August 27th 2010 and departed September 24th 2010 for Horta, Azores.

Unfortunately she has still not arrived in Europe and family members in the Ukraine are concerned for the safety of the 72 year old single handed skipper Volodymyr Orel.

The vessel, a 34ft sloop built in 1972, was based in St Georges for her month long stay in Bermuda. Repairs to the vessels boom and engine were carried out during that time.

Anyone who may have information as to the location or status of the Oberig is asked to contact Bermuda Harbour Radio telephone 441-297-1010.
