Photos & Video: 2011 Purvis Primary Science Fair

February 25, 2011

Parents and friends gathered yesterday [Feb 24] at Purvis Primary School for their 10th annual science fair.

Projects on display covered a wide range of subjects including how moon phases change, how to make a battery, recycling of juice boxes, how crayons work, atoms and molecules making a chemical reaction, and how to build an electric circuit. One young student informed us his favourite molecule is polymers.

Science Coordinator Crystal Lucas talks to some students about their projects below.

Minister of Education Dame Jennifer Smith attended the Science Fair and spoke with Bernews after touring the students displays. She is seen in this video with Purvis Primary Principal Ms. Judith Alexander, whom she congratulated for “creating an excitement about learning.” Dame Jennifer invited the public to attend the science fair, saying “If you think things are not happening in our Public schools, come and be suprised.”

Well done Pervis Primary and well done Ms. Alexander. While Saltus have been charging over 18k a year to teach their children about ‘native Americans’ and their Teepees, projects on American state seals, flowers and birds (although may be important if we were in the US however for Bermudians, who cares?), you have obviously inspired and challenged your students with these amazing projects you can all be so proud of.
