February 28, 2011

This past weekend the Bermuda Police arrested six people on suspicion of drunk driving. A Police spokesman said: “Between 7pm Friday, February 25th and 7am Monday, February 28th there were six people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”

In addition, Police officers conducted mobile patrols in various areas of the island throughout the weekend with no unusual activity encountered. They also conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises around the island including in the City of Hamilton, without incident.

In various anti-drunk driving campaigns and statements, officials have previously said that historically about 70% of all road deaths are alcohol related, and that Bermuda’s fatal road collision rate is about “six times worse that that of the UK.”
