Al-Anon Family Group Celebrates 60 Years

April 15, 2011

Al-Anon Family Groups, a fellowship of relatives & friends of alcoholics, will celebrate 60 years of being in existence this month. This important milestone will be celebrated at a special event being held on Saturday, April 16th. This celebratory event is open to both former and current Al-Anon members.

The purpose of Al-Anon is often misunderstood; Al-Anon is not A.A. While A.A is for those who have a drinking problem, Al-Anon is for the relatives, friends and loved ones of the problem drinker.

One of Al-Anons’ readings states, “Living with an alcoholic is too much for most of us. Al-Anon is a unique fellowship that unites members of different backgrounds, races, and walks of life in an inspiring endeavor: helping themselves and others to lead purposeful, useful lives by overcoming the frustration and helplessness caused by close association with an alcoholic.”

To find out more details about the 60th birthday event, call 236 8606. The only requirement for membership in Al-Anon is having a relative or a friend with a drinking problem. To find out more about Al-Anon and for the weekly schedule of Al-Anon meetings in Bermuda go to ncbermudaafg.org

Thank you for publishing an article about Al-Anon Family Group’s 60th anniversary and the local Bermuda Al-Anon telephone number and e-mail address. Al-Anon Family Groups, which includes Alateen for younger family members, continues to help establish and restore the mental health and well-being of children and adults affected or concerned about a relative or friend’s drinking. Al-Anon and Alateen groups meet in 133 countries around the world. We believe that whether or not the drinker continues to drink, those closest to the drinker can recover and live purposeful, useful, and happy lives. The article posted by Bernews has the potential of helping many people in need of our program to contact Al-Anon Family Groups in Bermuda and worldwide.
