Photos: “Bread 4 Life Athon” Fundraiser

April 10, 2011

Yesterday [Apr.9], the Richard Allen A.M.E. Church hosted a walk/bike ride/run-athon called “Bread 4 Life Athon” in aid of 17-year-old Cornell “Bread” Bailey.

17-year-old Saltus Student Cornell “Bread” Bailey was involved in a serious road accident on March 14th, 2011, and was airlifted to Boston soon after. The organizers hosted this event to help raise funds to assist the family with additional expenses that they are, and will be challenged with.

Cornell is still in a coma at Mass General Hospital in Boston, and is listed in stable condition. His mother, Scherene Bailey, his father, Cornell Bailey Sr., his sister Kenisha Francis and his niece, Zorihanna are there with him.

Runners and bike riders left from Richard Allen A.M.E. Church at approximately 8:30am after Ernest Signor Sr. spoke to the gathered crowd and gave thanks for everyone’s participation in supporting the Bailey family. Prayer was delivered by Rev. Conway Simmons, Pastor of Richard Allen A.M.E. Church.

In Hamilton, Reverend Cyril Simmons and Cornell’s aunt spoke before Reverend Simmons led a prayer and then warmed up the crowd before the walk. Approximately 150 walkers took part, starting their course from Saltus Grammar School field, and traveled along Front Street, Pitts Bay Road, St. John’s Road, North Shore Road and over Langton Hill before finishing at the school field.

Those interested in contributing a donation can make a deposit to Capital G Bank account number 7010916421 under the name of “The Bailey Family”.
