  1. PEPPER says:

ask any doctor and they will tell you…weight plays a big part to your blood pressure…and diabetes… so why would you think “big is beautiful ?

    • TRUTH BE TOLD says:

LMAO!!! Behave, got me laughing. I guess we can’t leave the big girls out. :P

    • GlobalCitizen says:

      RIGHT!!
AND all those kids in Africa & the rest of the world starving… what a shame!
Big is NOT beautiful …BIG IS BIG! period.

    • Contestant says:

While it is true that weight does play a part in having high blood pressure and diabetes, family history and eating habits and exercise habits play an even bigger part.

Weight isn’t dependent on you eating a lot. Genetics plays a big part, as does metabolism.

Obviously, you’re model thin and completely fit and can run a mile without breaking a sweat and eat healthy all the time.

Obviously, any person who has any extra weight is going to develop some disease which will eventually kill them.

Obviously, there are no diseases or disorders that can lead to weight gain or having issues with weight.

Obviously, every single one of these ladies are obese and should be sent to the gym right away so that they can lose weight so that they don’t up and die.

Obviously, YOU ARE A JACKASS. I hope you have the guts to say this to my face or to any of the other contestants.

If you don’t, you’re more of a coward and idiot than I thought.

      • GlobalCitizen says:

Gurl I would say it to your face! Lol I am just scared you might sit on me! And that’s not the way I wanna go out!
I am not model thin I am a size 6 I work out twice a week & eat McDonalds when I can!
I promote a balanced lifestyle I do NOT support women that wanna eat themselves to death and expect a whole country to support them on their way down!
So you’re telling me ALL the contestants are BIG because of Diabetes? Or other such disease and they are NOT at KFC chomping down a storm?
And in regards to Metabolism you can get that up by WORKING OUT! DUH! Have you watched biggest looser? If they can do it, anyone can! So STOP making excuses and I am sorry I WILL not support you on your path down hill.
Call me a jackass (I think name calling is kina cute!) all you want I am just stating how I feel and exercising my right of freedom of speech just like you!

        • CeCe says:

          Global Citizen,
You don’t work out nearly as often as you should. You should work out at least five days a week. What’s wrong with these women loving themselves right now? You have to love yourself in order to begin the process of eating healthy and exercising. There are big people all over the world and I refuse to think of them as unimportant just because they are big. They are people to and should be treated as such. I love all people no matter what their lifestyle or their looks. You might be a great person but you can’t tell by what you wrote.

        • True Dat says:

@GlobalCitizen Fall de Hell off, de PLANET WOULD YOU!!!

*JUST exercising my freedom of speech*

        • D. Everett says:

thanks for the laugh :-) afraid she would sit on you lol

        • Contestant says:

I apologize for the name calling. I was justifiably angry. I feel a little juvenile now.

There’s a difference between stating your opinion and being nasty. And I wasn’t talking to you unless you’re Pepper as well. You also didn’t read by [inflamed and angry] comment fully. Diabetes doesn’t make you big. I never claimed that, so please go back and look. To my knowledge, the contestants [who I have spent time with] don’t always eat fast food. Some have even professed a dislike for KFC.

In regards to metabolism….. who says they haven’t worked out. DO you know their family history? Do you know them? You’re seeing a snapshot, and not the whole film. The persons on biggest loser’s size was effecting their health negatively. Do you know about these ladies health? No, so please don’t profess to know such things.

Perhaps I was taking this too seriously and going too far, but these women are my friends and I don’t appreciate it when people bring them down. IN ANY WAY.

  2. D. Everett says:

I’m happy that these women think of themselves as beautiful and some of them are, but why are we promoting obesity, it’s unhealty

    • Contestant says:

      1. You don’t know any of these women. Therefore you do not know if they are actually obese.

      2. You’re stating the obvious about obesity being unhealthy.

      3. Be someone mature and actually think before you type, you troll. [Don't know why I say troll, look it up]

      • Wow says:

        1. Pretty sure BMI of “way too damn high” can be spotted in most of these women. That being said, you can be big and fit and I’m not seeing much of that here. We haven’t seen the contestants’ full bodies, however, so I won’t pass judgement on all of them just yet. There could be a Queen Latifah or two in there. Fingers crossed.

        2. Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated and RE-stated. 65% of Bermudians are overweight and obese. No. It isn’t anything to be celebrated. Trust and believe that.

        3. Name calling is obviously so mature. Pot meet Kettle.

Thankfully the pageant aims to celebrate gorgeous personalities and inner beauty. Better work on that, Contestant, or else you’re in for a bumpy ride. There’s no need to be so defensive about someone else’s opinion especially after the poster already said that some of the women ARE indeed very beautiful. Pulling HARD for Sandys South!!! Gorgeous.

        • Contestant says:

I’m sorry, but I just felt so upset because all these people are being so cruel, I tend to get upset. It was late when I started commenting. I know I should take it with a grain of salt, but I was just so upset, when people accuse me of being unhealthy and things like that. I’m trying. I just feel like, you don’t know me. I just don’t appreciate people spouting off stuff about obesity when they don’t even know if I am. The problem is is that to promote obesity, we have to say Eat a lot. Don’t exercise. Things like that.

          I go angry. I apologize.

      • D. Everett says:

@ Contestant, I do know most of these women, and sorry it’s still unhealty, troll or not, have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Contestant says:

So obviously you know me. If you’d like, stop by a practice. I’d love to meet you.

    • real talk says:

I don’t think we are promoting obesity. These women know what they are and the struggles they face. That does not give us they right to tell them they are not beautiful or are tell them they should not be proud of who they are. Im sure we would all like to be models but they are not to healthy either. It is a shame when we as a people have to curl up in a shell because society says we are not acceptable.

      ONE LOVE!!

      • CeCe says:

        Realtalk,
I agree with you 100%. Smoking is unhealthy, name calling is unhealthy and being condecending isn’t healthy. I applaud all of the contestants for having the guts to stand proud with flaws and all. No one is perfect.

    • Contestant says:

I apologize for my disrespectful comment. It was juvenile and I was tired and upset. And I do mean what I said about meeting because you have an opinion and one should always be able to hold themselves when confronted with those who have a different one. Again, my apologies.

      • Gertie says:

You should stop apologizing. Your opinion is yours. Love it or Leave it.

I do feel that those with negative comments though, should think before they speak. Such cruelty. If you don’t appreciate it, don’t go to the show.

  3. OMFG says:

Big is NOT beautiful….its the #1 Killer of most people…definetely should not be promoted!!! Promote weight lose, healthy eating, excersise regime!

  4. NoNeedForDrama says:

Contestant you are being just as dramatic as the comments u are responding to. No we don’t all eat as we should, nor do we all workout as we should. There is however a big difference between not being fit and being seriously overweight, and yes weight (however u gain it, genetic reasons or otherwise) is linked to illness… that is fact.

I’m not saying we should all strive to be model size, I am not, nor do I think that’s beautiful to be a size 0. But let’s not delude ourselves here.

  5. Aquilah Fleming says:

Go Tahirah!!! Its good to see beautiful ladies that know their beauty :D . Unlike the rest of the people on this site I have the balls to post my real name. All of you negative commentors please find a life.

    • Katrina M Smith says:

I Think that everyone that had negative things to say are all way out of line!!!!
Everyone on the face of this planet that is doing their best to live a good and productive life, deserves to feel good about themselves no matter what!

I think that the Miss Big And Beautiful Pagent is a great Thing!!
And I wish the contestants Nothing but Best!!
Go head Girls celebrate Your BEAUTY!!!

And Don’t Worry about These Mog ass Bogus Haters!!!

  6. Candy says:

You can be thin and have diabetes and blood pressure problems. I don’t look at this as promoting obesity. It’s promoting high self esteem. It’s quite obvious that all of you that are putting these women down because of their weight have problems with your self esteem. Happy people with high self esteem rarely find it neccessary to put others down and be negative. Only people that are unhappy with themselves find the need to do things like that as a way of making them feel better about themselves. Having a low self esteem is just as unhealthy as being overweight so rather than pointing out there faults work on your own.

  7. Citizen Banned says:

As someone who has struggled with weight most of my life. I’d like to wish the contestants good luck – and stay as healthy as you can.

  8. WTF Ever!!!! says:

Big is NOT beautiful….its the #1 Killer of most people…definetely should not be promoted!!! Promote weight lose, healthy eating, excersise regime!

    • bermyshotta says:

@ WTF ever!!!! – big is NOT beautiful in ya opinion and dats where we leave it. It ain’t promotin dey weight, it’s promotin beauty, confidence, and equality. not every woman’s a size 0 or look like “what society wants ya to look like” so get ova yaself bra. who says dey ain’t eatin healthy or excersise on a regular??

      • WTF Ever!!!! says:

First of all if they was “excersisng on a regular” or “eating healthy” they wouldnt be THAT big….be for real!!!! And i think that its crock when they say “Oh Im confident/happy with my weight!”…that’s just another excuse to justify laziness.

    • Gertie says:

You should really learn to spell and how to make a complete sentence.

  9. Daedalus says:

Fair play to all the contestants ditto to Candy’s comments. This goes a loooong way to boost high levels of self-esteem and positive reinforcement of body image and personality. Good luck to all participants!

All those with the negative, hurtful comments, just remember – when you point a critical finger as someone, there are four fingers pointing right back at you.

There again, in fairness to the critics, opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone’s got one. :-)

In all, another great article Bernews. Keep it up!

  10. Toni M Robinson says:

As the proud mother of one of the contestants, I will state that my daughter’s blood pressure and blood sugar levels are fine despite Diabetes present in her Father and an uncle. It is something we are ever aware of and monitor accordingly. And as for her size..genetics plays a part in that – she is never going to be a Size 10…however, she has been losing weight steadily, has a smaller waist than I do and her self-esteem and confidence has soared. (And for the record….we don’t do KFC!! lol)
Happy Easter everyone….Have an enjoyable and safe holiday.

  11. D. Everett says:

FAT IS FAT no matter how you slice it , obesity is a disease stop promoting this you are only contributing to the problem and no I am not a size 1 ….

    • True Dat says:

      @ D.Everett
YOU NEED TO FALL DE HELL OF DE PLANET TOO!!!
ALL YOU HATEFUL MEAN PEOPLE MAKE ME ILL!!!>;/

      • Daedalus says:

        +1

      • D. Everett says:

Whatever!!!! I’m sorry but the truth does hurt want a side of fries with that

        • True dat says:

          @D Everett
your a cruel person for the comments you are making!!! Low self esteem and unhappiness with oneself is a sickness that you most definitely have go seek some help and leave these strong Big Beautiful women alone!!!

          • D. Everett says:

Unlike you I’m not cruel just a realist, and I’m not unhappy or have low self esteem, as you say, I am just in the health sector and these women are obese and it’s not good for them.

  12. Nikki S says:

Clearly i sense attitude from one of the contestants so far…n she considers herself a so called educator…

    • D. Everett says:

I’m sorry if I offended anyone, what I am saying IS THESE ARE FAT WOMEN THEY MAY BE PRETTY WELL EXCEPT THE ONE WITH THE ATTITUDE, but I would be lying if I sit here and say congratulations I’m not fake like that, OBESITY IS A MAJOR PROBLEM maybe it would be best if they had a contest like the 100 day challenge to see who gets the healtiest and lose the most weight. then I would support them 100%

    • Contestant says:

My apologies if you’re talking about me, but I was upset. You can understand that, right? I didn’t have my usual filter because I foolishly went on when I was tired. I tend to get snappish when I’m sleepy. And no I don’t consider myself an educator, but when faced with some comments that I find somewhat insensitive, I’m insensitive in the same vein. I was rude, and I can own up to it. I’m not professing to be anything but what I am. And unfortunately, when people “attack” the contestants, it incites a certain amount of rage.

      I’m sorry for misrepresenting myself.

      • Big & Beautiful! says:

Contestant: Please do not apologize for making your voice/opinion know. You are allowed to speak out just as others who have falsely judged you.

If you are an educator than be proud about it and state that you are!

Nikki S.; in all fairness if someone is writing mess about or relating to you that is offensive or hurtful, I know that you just like others will not take that so calmly.

        • Nikki S says:

look…no one seemed to have been writing mess or saying anything that related to the woman who had the attitude so we are talking about two different things. She seemed to have an attitude for no reason and making comments about people being a distraction..she was the only one who seemed to have anything negative to say n it’s disgusting! I don’t care what anyone says…if u are an educator act like an upstanding citizen in the public and leave the attitude at the door.

      • Nikki S says:

If you are the lady who talked about a certain someone being a distraction then yes I am talking about you…leave your attitude at the door next time. It just brought a bad taste to my mouth that’s all…hopefully we don’t see any more instances of that during the reality show.

all the best to the contestants!

  13. TO ALL THE IDIOTS says:

OBESITY IS UNHEALTHY YES, BUT A BOOST OF SELF ESTEEM IS NOT UNHEALTHY! WHETHER BIG OR SMALL WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, MAYBE YOU IDIOTS WHO ALWAYS BRING NEGATIVITY HELP CONTRIBUTE TO THE OBESITY. TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF AND CHOKE ON IT.
MAYBE THEM BUILDING THEIR SELF ESTEEM WITH THESE TYPES OF CONTESTS WILL HELP THEM FEEL BETTER AND MAYBE WANT TO CHANGE, EITHER WAY THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL AND PEOPLE NEED TO JUST GROW UP!

    • D. Everett says:

Actually you are the idiot, when they have this contest and people start congratulating them and saying oh how beautiful you look (i’m not doubting they have pretty faces, well some of themm, and beautiful hearts blah blah blah) what are we really telling them ?

      • Big & Beautiful! says:

        Hi,

My question is why do people keep assuming that we are obese, unhealthy, etc. Please explain!

I can speak for me and say that i am active. I have a work out routine but my goal isn’t weight loss. It’s just something I do.

I don’t over eat and what is a storm from KFC?

Someone else had it wrong also because Big is Beautiful; everyone is beautiful. So please cut the crap people. You have a choice to support or not. If your going to be negative than please do not make stupid comments.

        The question can be asked:

        1) Why do we support body building – people assume that they use steroids.
        2) Why support beauty pageants – people assume that those people are anorexic. Any woman knows that the weight just begins to come on you after the teenage years are over.

        So please cut it out.

        Thank you…..

  14. SHAUN JAMES RUBAINE says:

So I read the gist of all this, and you know what I am a simple straight forward man, I know and have met and talked to most of these beautiful women(and they are all beautiful) and there is nothing wrong with them they are having fun and livin life to the fullest and they are doing it right obviously if they are getting hated on so much about anythng that might be preceived as a flaw in their being, they saw a challenge and a new experiance and they have stepped up to the challenge and that is so rare to see anyone step up these days and challenge societies preceptions and misconceptions of them and be brave and bold while they do it and that makes them all 100% winners. Oh and if you got the b***S and time haters come to P-tech AV and talk that garbage inbetween my busy schedule I am always up for intelligent discourse….remember i said (let me spell it) I-N-T-E-L-L-I-G-E-N-T…just cause your sucking air doesn’t make you intelligent or even give you the right to open your mouth past that. Have a happy Easter haters and lovers and god bless you all :) .

  15. Denyse Evans says:

I CANNOT BELIEVE THE HATEFUL COMMENTS THAT I AM READING HERE. I know 2 of these beautiful women and I can’t wait to see them strutt their stuff on May 1st. Congratulations to each and every one of the contestants that have the courage to join, I’m sure they knew that there would be plenty of haters, but some of you are just PURE EVIL!!!
To me, a beautiful person is kind and sincere. A person who believes in thinking before talking, who believes in treating others as they want to be treated. To me, true beauty is not about HOW a person looks; but how they carry themselves. …To me, a beautiful person has morals, and think of others and care about other people. A person who believes in trying to rise above rough times. . A person who prefers to be an original ( in a good way) instead of concerning themselves with being in with the in-crowd all the time. A humble person . A person who treat people they CANNOT stand in the worse possible way with respect. Best of luck to each and everyone one of you, and I pray that you get out of this competition what you are aiming for God Bless, Denyse Evans

  16. Susie J says:

@Denyse thank you for this comment, proves that not everybody are nasty and hateful.
