Tucker Murphy Wins Division: Norway Ski Contest

Photo credit: Lauren Jacobs via faskskier Bermuda’s Tucker Murphy put on a stellar performance to win his age division in a 42km ski marathon in Norway, finishing over 20 minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

Mr Murphy – the only Bermudian skier to ever represent the island at the Winter Olympics – won the 20-29 year old age division in the 19th Annual Svalbard Ski Marathon in Norway.

Mr Murphy finished in 2:08:12, a domaninating performance that saw him cross the line over 20 minutes ahead of the second place finisher Bendik Myrvan who finished in 02:39:43

Artem Onishchenko won the Marathon with a time of 2:02:28, with Arnulf Bekkevoll finished second, Johan Lintzen finished third and Bermuda’s Tucker.Murphy finished 4th overall.

Competitors race in classic style, traveling the 42km [21 miles] through a magnificent Arctic landscape, and the area is also home of the Polar Bear Population.

Mr Murphy said, “It was a challenge but one I enjoyed, I also saw a Polar Bear during the race but I just kept going.”

Tucker.Murphy is the first ever Bermudian skier to represent the island at the Winter Olympics, having competed in the 2010 Olympics. He is the third ever Bermudian to compete at the Winter Games, following Simon Payne and Patrick Singleton.
