Results: School Mountain Biking Champs

Bermuda Institute won the Middle School title and Saltus Grammar took the top spot in the Primary race at Sunday’s Primary & Middle Schools Team Mountain Biking Championship at the Arboretum.

14 primary schools and 4 middle schools contested the races which were organized by the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) and supported by the Bermuda Schools Sports Federation (BSSF). Teams scored points for their top three finishers and those schools who sent big teams showed that numbers count.

In the Primary division separate races were run for students in P1-3 and P4-6 with different courses to accommodate the range of abilities of the younger cyclists. Somersfield Academy came second in the division with Warwick Academy finishing third.

And while the Middle School race was won handily by Daniel Oatley of Saltus, his school only fielded two riders, keeping them from contending for the title. A deep Bermuda Institutes team of compiled a strong individual results of 2nd, 5th and 10th to take the victory over Somersfield in second and Warwick Academy in third.

While results were being tabulated, children from the Happy Valley Child Care program showed their budding biking skills on Strider bikes, impressing all the spectators.
