Visitor Dies Following Golf Cart Accident

[Updated] A 73-year-old female tourist from Virginia passed away yesterday [May 8] following an accident which occurred on the the Rosewood Tuckers Point Club property.

Details are unclear at this time, however we understand the lady was injured in an accident involving a golf cart and passed away the following day.

Tucker’s Point have not yet responded to our request for comment yesterday, however we are expecting an official statement soon and will update as able.

Update 12:11pm: Police released a statement confirming that this marks the 3rd road fatality for 2011 and identifying the victim as Jean Stanley.

Update 12:32pm: Tucker’s Point Managing Director Brian Young released a statement:

We are very sad to confirm the tragic death of a guest staying in a private residence at Tucker’s Point. According to police reports, the guest fell out of a golf cart on Saturday, May 7 and was immediately rushed to King Edward Memorial Hospital where she later succumbed early Sunday, May 8, to her injuries.

We are grateful to the members of our staff (including two security officers) who responded immediately to the accident, as did the police and an ambulance. The incident, of course, remains under police investigation.

Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased, and we will continue to do everything we can to support them through this terrible time.

Update 1:58pm: The Police have sent an amended version of their original statement correcting Mrs Stanley’s age and state of residence, which is reflected below:

Police responded to a report of an incident that took place on Saturday May 7th 2011 at approximately 4:26pm on the property of the Rosewood Tucker’s Point Club.

It appears that 73 year old Jean Stanley of Virginia was travelling as a passenger in a golf cart when she fell from the golf cart, sustaining head injuries.

As a result Ms. Stanley was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance; however she subsequently succumbed to her injuries.

A full investigation into this incident has commenced and the Bermuda Police Service extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.
