The typical fake travellers’ cheque appears to be from American Express and claims to be worth U.S. $500.

It became apparent that these fraudulent cheques were in circulation after some local residents responded to a recent internet advertisement promoting an alleged ‘work from home’ opportunity.

The local banking institutions have been made aware of this matter and they remain vigilant.

The Financial Crime Unit advises members of the public who may receive these cheques to disregard them as they have no value. However, if in doubt please contact the Financial Crime Unit on 295-0011.

    • Big Ears says:

Huh? I think that these cheques are being mailed from scam artists in the UK, Netherlands or possibly even Nigeria. This is a well-established “work at home” scam where they send you a cheque to pay for supplies and send the remainder back to them. By the time the cheque doesn’t clear, it’s usually too late as the cash has already been sent abroad.

What does government have to do with fraudsters outside of Bermuda?

Your statement makes no sense at all (or maybe it wasn’t supposed to make sense).
