Police Discover Four Foot Tall Cannabis Plants

June 29, 2011

This past Monday [June 27], Police officers discovered a number of cannabis plants approximately four feet tall growing in St David’s. Police also said it appeared that additional plants may have been uprooted and removed prior to the Police discovery.

A Police spokesman said, “On Monday afternoon June 27th, Detectives and Uniform Police from the Southside Police Stations, Eastern Division attended a heavily vegetated undisclosed area in St. David’s and as a result officers discovered a number of potted cannabis plants approximately four feet tall.”

IMG00022-20110629-1412

“There was also evidence suggesting that other Cannabis Plants had been growing in this area and had been uprooted and taken away by suspected grower(s) prior to the Police discovery.”

“An investigation into this incident is ongoing and police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact police on 2950011.”

    • will says:

yep…spend the public purse on catching serious crimes…jeez
lets waste time, money and effort on eradicating a plant…

  2. J says:

That says it all. A tree, that grows naturally, is illegal. So are you going to charge the sun and rainfall with conspiracy to cultivate marijuana?

    • anywhere but Bermuda says:

      Or God for creating them.

      • I agree! says:

I’m a mature, professionsal female. I don’t use marijuana but I agree with you completely! It boggles my mind that something that is natural and is therefore created by God (if one believes in Him) can get you tossed in prison for having possession of.

It’s an herb! It grows naturally! It has health benefits! I can go to my doctor and get a prescription for narcotics that are basically a syntehtic form of heroin. I can go into any liquor store or bar and buy alcohol, drink it and then drive and possibly kill some innocent person. I can go into a store-even a pharmacy!-and buy cigarettes that are KNOWN KILLERS and pollute my lungs and everyone else’s around me. Yet if I was found in possession of a natural herb I could get a fine or prison time. It’s crazy!

(I won’t even get into the whole Pharmaceutical Industry conspiracies to keep marijuana out of people’s hands but look it up!)

        • I agree! says:

I’m so professional that I spelled it wrong-lol!

          • tradition says:

(lol) What profession is this person in that you would not know that these plants are not growing naturally. I remember seeing the word potted. Therefore, potted makes it un-natural.

        • YoungObserver says:

@ i agree, u couldn’t say it any better… all these legal crimes that r going on n they worry about lil weed smokers… n wat kills me is they r so fast to stop n search young black males(steriotyping) on bikes then catching the real criminals driving round goin str8 pass were the police are out!!! come on BPS u cant focus jus on young black males, stop n search everybody if thats the case!!!

          • Scott says:

for one, which crimes are you talking about? if you are talking about the shootings then its sad to say, but focusing on everyone other then young black males isnt really much help. obviously its a bad stereotype because there are more good then bad, but it probably is pretty useless to go pull over some granny for a little weed..

to clarify, i doubt they are pulling over young black males just to see if they have a lil weed on them… remember, timothy McVeigh was found and arrested because he had a broken license plate… the little things can very well lead to big things.

            • SMDH!! says:

McVeigh was a CIA operative that took the fall for OKC!! Get your facts str8 before you go blabbing foolishness!! I agree with “I agree” and “youngobserver” they are just stopping the black men to find weed to fund their corrupt government!! LEGALIZE IT!!!

          • Hebrew Schooled says:

Now if you’re growing your own for personal use, fine. I agree, ‘I agree!’- but here’s what’s getting me- most li’l weed smokers as Young Observer put it aren’t growing their own, they’re buying it. They’re not buying it from a local agriculturalist, they’re buying it from a dealer, effectively providing support for the illegal drug trade, providing economic support for these ‘heroes’ who are shooting each other making this place a gangsta’s paradise. Unless you grow your own OR if it’s one day legalized, don’t smoke it. Don’t provide support for these menaces who are ruining the BErmuda we love. I completely agree that there are bigger and way more serious crimes to worry about, but we all play our part when we turn a blind eye to the smokers who support the dealers. As to tobacco and alcohol, couldn’t agree more. They’ve caused WAY more damage, but facts are that Herb is still illegal. Sure, campaign against it, take a chance if you want and grow your own, but for the sake of our society, please, please PLEASE don’t buy it!! Every toke you take is more money into gang coffers, please be aware of what you’re doing. I won’t have the blood of a generation on my hands. Would you?

            • Govnamon says:

Y dont you look at it from the other side…. the problem is not the people buying it, its the people selling it… HOW COME WE CANT BE BUYING OUR WEED FROM A PROFFESSIONAL WHO DOESNT SMOKE IT, SAY “I’agree” FOR EXAMPLE…. THE DEMAND IS THERE, ITS NOT GOING AWAY MATE, WE JUST NEED A MORE ECONOMICAL AND SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE SUPPLIER (LIKE IN AMERICA OR CANADA, YOU BUY FROM A THIRTY YEAR OLD WHITE GUY LIVING IN HIS MOTHERS BASEMENT)…. NUFF SAID, WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BUY FROM IGRANT FOOLS ON THE STREET B/C IGRANT FOOLS ARE THE ONLY ONES TAKING CHANCES AND SELLING IT HEAR DO TO THE FOOLISH UNREASONABLE LAWS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS god given… plant?

    • mixitup says:

Naa the rain will get a conditional discharge, it hasn’t been seen around much.

    • True Dat says:

  3. Medicinal? says:

I wonder if the Police arrested any crack or heroin dealers today? Probably not since houses are still being broken into on a daily basis. Good thing they got those plants though! Those dangerous plants… :-S Kudos for getting the gun and bullets last week though, now that’s real crime-fighting…

  4. My two cents says:

    Oh no!!! Not plants eek…..
Not plants, not plants!!! Quick pull them out of de ground before they hurt somebody! Oh wait sorry that’s our friend alcohol…

    • My two cents says:

You ‘re generalizing and judgmental attitude is extremely dangerous. Do you know anyone who drinks alcohol? Are every one of them alcoholics? The true poison that is glorified in this Bermudian society. Perhaps you should concentrate your efforts on that if you are really concerned as that is what kills and injures people every year, year after year.
The blame does not lie with weed, the blame lies at the feet of all politicians, families, and churches for not being there for these kids to give the guidance they need to functioning members of society.

  10. onlytharealest says:

    If everybody got a bong
and smoked a lot of weed,
    then everyone would get along
and end all of our greed!

  11. you probably think I'm crazy says:

Give me a break, you mean to tell me that in the midst of an economic crisis and unprecidented crime, our police are wasting our limited tax dollars to play in the bushes and find trees! May you please go back to doing police work! We already have a parks department to take care of plants!

  12. Clafe says:

    LOOK BUH,

d reason dat herb shuld b legalized is becuz dere r so many boasty thingz u can do wif it BESIDES smoke it….DID U THINK OF THAT, PPL??? OR R UR MINDZ CLOSD AS USUAL???

My ace girl’s gynecologist Queesh-Stumpro said dat 1 time she wuz in vancouver at a medical mariwana confrence wif her otha gynecology ace girls (dey meet erry tuesday at casemates 2 play canasta), n that AFTER de part where guyz were talkin bout smokin it, guyz moved on 2 d otha uses n it wuz FASINATING. she said 1 doctor wuz talkin bout how he used an herb plant 2 spot-weld his boat. Anotha guy wuz sayin dat a bag of herb did his taxes 4 him n even spotted a deduction he had missd. but Queesh-Stumpro said d most amazin story she heard wuz from 1 nurse who built her entire 3-story house wif a half gram of herb (Parts AN labour, dun).

as usual, d police r restricting GUYZ from gettin ahead, even in d middle of a repression…4 SHAME

    • will says:

the plant with over 55,000+ recorded uses over millenia…so no, i’m not gettin over it. Does it make sense to you to eradicate the most useful resource we have?

      • Scott says:

so fight the law and the people who keep it on the books, not those who are tasked to enforce it.

Mother nature ain’t being nice to the crops this season I see.

    • will says:

pff Paula Cox aint mother nature :P
she should use some logical initiative and decriminalise it, save government loads of money which instead we spend on chasing recreational users…never hear of a any dealers getting busted these days…

  19. In Mark's opinion says:

Lock up all the Herb and the people go crazy man .

  20. Legalize or Not says:

Do you think politicians should take a serious look at legalizing small quantities and no more then 5 plants in your yard similiar to Holland?

    • tell me what to do says:

I agree. I have said it once and I will say it again, If everyone had a plant or two in there yard we will not have drug deals on the street selling it. No drug dealers, no crime. Keep the laws if you are count selling it or smoking in a public place then you deal with the law. If you go home and do what you do than who is breaking the law. What you do in your home is your business. Can’t speak for the crack heads

    • confused says:

Now is the time. The Government should look at ways to tax, either through having to buy a licence or some type of growers permit. As said above marijuana/hemp has so many other uses other than just to be smoked. The Government could lead a creative initiative and start gaining some much needed revenue while at the same time, removing the criminal element from production/consumption, therefore freeing up resources for real crime prevention and more proactive policing where it is needed. Its a no brainer!!!

  21. Riley B King says:

Anyone who think 4 ft tall plants like this are just for personal use needs their head examined.

    • gman says:

Riley…Height has nothing to do with yield

    • Really?? says:

Riley, look at those plants. Anybody that knows anything about Cannibus would know that the plants shown in that picture are actually worthless. The part of the plant that is harvested and smoked are the buds. There are no buds on that plant. Either they have been harvested already and what was left was discarded by the ‘farmer’ (as may be case as evidenced by the obvious neglect of the plant or those plants did not produce buds which effectively makes them worthless. I would estimate that the police have confiscated about $100 worth (at the most)of ‘Shake’ (Trash that people that smoke would never buy). I would be embarrassed to show a picture of that and call it a seizure. LOL

    • Govnamon says:

      Dear Riley B King,
      you are igrant,
      thx,
go get ur head examined… u can grow ganja once a year, thats it… u know how much you ‘can’ smoke in a year… then how much you ‘do’ smoke in a year… clearly a couple of trees are for personal use u idiot, im sry but wow, dnt talk if u kno nothing about wat ur talkin about,
      thx

This is okay to do but plants, heavens no no no. They kill, oh wait that’s alcohol

  24. time for it says:

We must all be brave and demand our right to grow and use the cannabis plant.
God-Nature made it, man used it for thousands of years for food, textiles, paper, wood, recreation, medicine, and more. It kills cancer, which is being proven over and over in proper lab tests around the globe. Nothing else kills cancer.

The cannabis seed contains all our vital amino acids, and it is very nutritious. There are only a rare few handful of plants which can boast such agricultural value as a food source. In fact, in the event of a global disaster, cannabis would be the best crop to help mankind survive.

Yes, it has been about 80 years for mainstream countries having made the plan illegal. But that time is a mere dot on the timeline the plant has existed. Meanwhile, perscription drugs poison billions on earth, making hundreds of millions of people addicted to something that man made in a lab.

Perscription drug companies make hundreds of billions of dollars off this scheme. Drug-dealers make billions off the illegalization of drugs. Corruption ties together criminals with crime-fighters. Money is an evil root.

The fact is, that cannabis is a plant. Nobody has the right to cut it down, tell us not to grow it, or not to use it. America and many other nations have finally become wise, and allow medicinal and even recreational use. In these nations, endless positive results have been gained.

We should be allowed to grow the plant as if it were any other vegetable, fruit, or flower.

Heroin, crack, pcp, cocaine, meth, alcohol, etc, are all man-made. They all damage and kill. They make you addicted. They destroy brains, families, lives, and society.

But the lie that cannabis does these things too, is a horrid and pathetic attempt to unjustly control other people’s lives. It needs to stop. The horrid excuses need to stop.

How on earth, can a government make a plant illegal, when it is the only thing on this planet which naturally kills cancer? A plant that can do so much, and has such a wide range of medicinal benefits?

The few who have power – regardless of whatever nation, Bermuda or other – love to flex their muscles of control over the poplace. But as we can all see worldwide – the governments do not always have our interests at heart.

The people who want it legalized should stand up for that right, and demand it. No human has the right to condemn a plant. Only God can have such authority. And if He did not like the plant, why did He make it? When He made every herb of the field for the use of man, He declared them ALL GOOD.

The few who have power must let their muscle rest, and cease to flex it over the people. The few take the power from the many, and this is what runs nations sadly.
It should be the PEOPLE who run the nation. It should never be a few, but the majority. I wish I could run this island.

It is not about how many people say YES or NO to the topic. Who cares! The fact here is the right of a plant to exist and be used by humans. That is a God-given right.

Tobacco and alcohol will continue to poison, destroy, and slay more people in one year than cannabis will over a thousand years. And yet what will our government do about this? They will keep giving out liquor licenses. They will keep the booze stores open. They will sell tobacco. It will not stop.

All we can do is pray that the plant be freed from this illogical taboo, and be illuminated in the glory that it deserves.

I don’t want to hear trash nonsense about it fries your brain. That is nonsense, and never been supported medically or scientifically. I also don’t want to hear trash nonsense about it makes you lazy, or that the smoke kills you. These are all pathetic exaggerated lies, made to brainwash people. If you look at the facts, scientists have always proven these things to be lies.

Smoke damages lungs, yes. But you can vaporize the cannabis, eat it, or use a water-pipe which removes tar etc. I will not expand upon this section of my talk here though.

I just pray that the plant is freed. It deserves it. And I know that whoever holds us from this right, shall be punished in the life to come.

God bless everyone! May you be inspired to speak up for your rights! Do not be afraid of the few!

When governments around the world oppressed their peoples, it was ONLY THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS who made things change.

Martin Luther made such a change. If he had kept his mouth shut, what would we have now? Back then, the ruling people thought it was okay to oppress blacks. Luther knew otherwise, he knew RIGHTS. He spoke up for them without FEAR. Let us learn a lesson from his bravery.

Terry do you have more than two brain cells switched on at any given moment? It sure doesn’t sound like it when you say that if weed is legalized all of a sudden bus drivers will be drawin on spliffs during their work day. Alcohol is legal right now so is it safe to assume that they’re drinking on the job right now? Do you really think that? If so why don’t you report them? If you pissed in a cup right now you would test positive for STUPID and it’s a shame that stupidity is legal.

      • Terry says:

“Two brain cells”. Are you mad. Of course not. And you just proved me right. Once again I have proven that the ‘shooting gallery’ is alive in Bermuda.

The messenger? He’s the first to go.

  29. Onion Soup says:

Ganja mon, the mere fact that you have to use such offensive, disrespectful language in your argument to justify marijuana use does little but bolster others’ opinions that marijuana use is bad. Also, using the reasoning that marijuana is a plant, therefore it must be good, is specious at best. There are thousands of plants in the world that are poisonous, even deadly when ingested in tiny amounts. Are they too OK to use merely because they are plants? FYI, tobacco, heroin and cocaine are also plant derivatives…none of which serve any useful purpose when used recreationally…and are extremely addictive and have terrible health (and often psychological) consequences when used in excess.

Go smoke some more weed, mellow out and do some research before you start shooting off your mouth.

“Everyone has a price. The important thing is to find out what it is”…….

    Wonder who said that.

    Were talking drugs here…(clue)…..

  34. To those that oppose says:

I would like to say the following to everyone that uses the negative health effects of marijuana to justify its illegal status

1.Ill health effects from smoking marijuana in know way justify an individual not being able to choose what they want to do with their own bodies. if this indeed was a logical reason for making something illegal, then plastics that leach chemicals, pesticide laden fruits veggies grains, sugary sweets/drinks, trans fatty acids, food dyes, MSG, coffee, cigs, alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, soy protein isolate and all the other crap we are allowed to freely ingest in as much quantity as our hearts desire would be ILLEGAL. At the end of the day this is an individual rights issue. Arguments of health don’t rationalise the illegal status in any way, sorry.

    2. Cannabis does not have to be smoked, it can be vaporized to take out all carcinogenic chemicals that result from combustion of the substance and eaten in foods, drank in teas; therefore none of the ill effects of smoking can be used to rationalize the illegal status.

    3. This whole bs about your bus driver being stoned is beyond ridiculous. You’re job could easily mandate no coming to work high(just like you can’t go to work drunk or high on opiates) and do a public service/healthcare service sector type of job. I will add that the research for driving while stoned done in the UK back in the nineties is far less than supportive that persons driving high are dangerous on the road, in fact certain studies showed people were more cautious drivers. Being that drunk driving is the most dangerous threat on our roads, we might want to get that squared away before we use stoned drivers as an excuse for keeping the status of marijuana illegal.

    4. Children-good grief, if marijuana becomes a regulated drug, it will be harder NOT easier to get, period. Children get it so easily now because guess what drug dealers don’t care who the heck they are selling to because they are drug dealers.
Not to mention the long touted “gateway drug” is the direct result of having to get the drug from you guessed it drug dealers. They WANT you to try other stuff so you get hooked on it. If that interaction were taken away, the gateway drug theory would fall flat on its face. Not to mention that many children enter the drug trade by selling small amounts of marijuana and working there way up. Again take away the easy money black market.

    5. Increase in consumption-
It has been proven in places were marijuana is decriminalised and even sold in shops, consumption initially spikes in the first year and then drastically decreases. If you don’t believe me, fine look it up. Check studies on Portugal were ALL drugs have been decriminalised for ten years and check out Amsterdam and Canada.

Once you take out everyone’s personal emotions and the people that are actually against legalization because they are somehow profiting either black market, big pharma’s scrips, Dupont’s paper processing which don’t count, there really isn’t a logical argument left for denying what is best for the greater good of society.
