lamont marshall bermuda runner june 11The Bermuda Track and Field Association [BTFA] has named nine local athletes to the 2011 CAC Senior Championships which will be held July 15-17, 2011 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

BTFA President Donna Watson said, “Bermuda will be sending a very strong team to the CAC Snr Chamionships. The event is being held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in the same stadium that was used for the CAC Games last year.”

“We are excited to have Lamont Marshall [pictured] join us and we look forward to him having a great event. Lamont is looking very good with the times that he has run this season so this will be exciting to see him up against the middle distance runners in our region especially the Mexican distance athletes.”

“Most of these athletes are attempting to meet the standards for the World Championships and most of them have already met the standards for the Pan Am Games. We are also taking some of our younger athletes who have just graduated from the Carifta Games and were too old to compete in the Carifta Games Darico Clarke and Alexis Bean. Some of these athletes are coming off some great performances at University so we are looking for some great results.”

“Shianne and Andrea have just recently competed in the NACAC Combined Events with both of them having good performances this weekend at the National Championships. Shianne will be competing in Island Games in individual events as a warm up for CAC Snr. Aaron Evans who has had a slight injury and has had to sit out for a few weeks should be well rested for this summer’s competition and we are hoping to get him in some competitions in Europe.”

“Tyrone is performing well over in Europe and we anticipate him having another stellar performance. Arantxa has redshirted this season and should be fresh as she has had a few competitions and will have several more leading up to the CAC Snr Championships. Arantxa also graduated from Stamford University this past weekend and will continue her graduate studies in September.”

“Jasmine Brunson has had a stellar year making it to the NCAA Div I championships and jumping a PB this year. Tre Houston has returned to London and will hopefully get his injury looked after and should be ready for CAC Snr as he has several track meets lined up between now and then.”
