Rubis Donates Fuel to BZS Research Boat
Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS] has received a boost to its environmental education and conservation-research programmes, thanks to the donation of a year’s worth of diesel boat fuel by RUBIS Energy Bermuda.
The fuel, to be provided free of charge through next April, will go to the BZS outreach vessel, Endurance, which takes schoolchildren and researchers around Bermuda’s waters for education fieldtrips and conservation and study projects. Some 6,000 local students participate in the BZS Schools Programme, which supports the national science curriculum.
“On behalf of RUBIS Energy Bermuda, I am very pleased to assist Bermuda Zoological Society’s marine environmental education programme for our schoolchildren through the donation of diesel fuel for the conservation outreach vessel Endurance,” said David Rose, General Manager of RUBIS Energy Bermuda.
The 45-foot Endurance takes students of all ages on summer-camp and class fieldtrips, research studies and afterschool programmes on expeditions to various marine parks around the Island where they snorkel on reefs, study turtles or enjoy whale-watching and glow-worm tours.
“We are very grateful to RUBIS Energy Bermuda for this generous donation that will allow BZS to continue providing critical conservation education to Bermuda’s young people—fulfilling our mission to educate tomorrow’s environmentalists,” says Lynda Johnson, of BZS.
“Endurance is a ‘floating classroom’ that lets students experience Bermuda from the water. As a result, our science classes connect Bermuda’s children in a direct way with marine ecology and conservation.”
BZS is the support charity for Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, funding a full slate of education programmes, conservation and research projects, exhibits and community outreach events.
