St. George’s Wins 2nd Cup Match Trial

The St. George’s Cricket Club hosted their second Cup Match Trial yesterday [July 9] with play due to start at Wellington Oval at 10:00am.

The St. George’s Cup Match Trial team was to include seven of the eleven players with Cup Match experience. The St. George’s team was set to include current Cup Match Captain Oronde Bascome, former Cup Match Captain Lionel Cann, PHC captain Jason Anderson, St. David’s Cricket Club captain OJ Pitcher as well as George O’Brien Jr., Fiqre Crockwell and Ryan Steede.

St. George’s welcomed opposing team Cleveland County who were due to sport five players with Cup Match experience. Players included were Misheal Paynter and Allan Douglas Jr. who have suited up for the St. George’s Cricket Club and both made their Cup Match debuts last year, while Curtis Jackson, Dion Stovell and Hussan Durham all have represented the Somerset Cricket Club.

At the end of the day’s play, St. George’s Cricket Club were bowled all out for 246. Jason Anderson was the top scorer with 62 while Christian Burgess added 39 and Ryan Steede scored 23.

Makai Young led the Cleveland County bowling attack with figures of 12-1-42-3 while Allan Douglas bowled 7.2-1-35-2 and Damali Bell bowled 11-1-47-2.

In reply Cleveland County was bowled all out for 191. Curtis Jackson was the top scorer with 46 while Dennis Musson Jr. scored 37 and Misheal Paynter scored 35.

Steede led the St. George’s Cricket Club bowling attack with figures of 9.2-0-42-4, George O’Brien Jr. bowled 12-2-44-2 and Kyle Hodsoll bowled 10-2-35-2.

Final Score with St. George’s Cricket Club winning by 55 runs: St. George’s Cricket Club 246 Cleveland County 191
