Capital G Appoints New Board Member

George E. Thomas, Jr.Capital G Limited announced the appointment of experienced U.S.-based equity investment management advisor, George E. Thomas, Jr., to the Capital G Limited Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Chairman of Capital G Bank Limited, James Gibbons, said, “We are delighted to welcome George to the Board. He brings extensive experience in banking, trading and asset management to the appointment.”

“George’s expertise in asset management in particular brings additional oversight and governance to Capital G Investments Limited and its newly acquired subsidiaries, Orion Investment Management Ltd. and Kast Investment Management Ltd., and to the investment management and brokerage activities of the most recent Capital G Limited acquisition, First Bermuda Group Ltd.”

Mr. Gibbons added that Capital G will continue to develop its financial services range of companies to serve clients in Bermuda and abroad. “Capital G’s total assets under management are currently at just under $1 Billion,” he said.

“As we anticipate further growth through acquisitions over the next several years, expanding the talent and breadth of expertise of the Board is a requirement in order to ensure the necessary macro-oversight of the management of the Capital G entities.”

A Bermudian, Mr. Thomas is currently a partner at Scura Partners Securities, LLC, a private investment banking firm located in New York City that provides financial advisory and capital-raising services. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Omni Family group of hedge funds, where he serves on the Pricing Committee.

Over his 20-year professional career, Mr. Thomas has held a series of positions in banking, trading, and asset management at a broad range of financial services firms. He served as an Active International Quantitative Portfolio manager, focused on Asian equities, at State Street Global Advisors, and as Head of Strategy and Business Development at Citigroup Alternative Investments.

At Citigroup, he was a member of Citigroup Global Markets’ Strategic Business Investments Group in New York and was later responsible for the creation of JapanCross Securities, a joint venture between Citigroup and Instinet which he led from concept to fully operational broker dealer, based in Tokyo, Japan.

Mr. Thomas received a B.A. degree in Economics from Duke University and an M.B.A. degree in Finance and Quantitative Methods from UNC Kenan Flagler Business School. He currently holds the following FINRA registrations: 7, 63, 55, 24, 27 and 79. Mr. Thomas served as a Management Trainee at the Bank of Butterfield from 1988-1990 prior to returning to the U.S. to pursue his M.B.A.
