Upcoming: An Intergenerational Conversation

August 10, 2011

On Thursday, August 11th members of the public aged 13 years and higher are invited to attend the Wesley Methodist Church [Dyer Hall] from 5:30 – 7:30pm and participate in multi-generational round table discussions facilitated by Fitzgerald Williams, Social Worker and Client Relations Manager with the Department of Financial Assistance.

The round table discussions will touch on topics such as:

  • What contributions each generation can make in support of the other
  • How families do and/or might support each other during the existing housing crisis
  • How older generations might support younger generations in being more proud of their Bermudian culture

Mirrors’ Acting Assistant Programme Coordinator, Jeanene Todd explains, “Too long our misperceptions have determined interactions between the various generations.”

“And after collecting feedback from approximately 100 young people and 100 adults, we determined that rather than discuss what needed to happen, we would create action around it. Hence this community forum came to be.”

Miss Todd continued, “The opportunity of these discussions is to facilitate intergenerational conversation between Bermuda’s youth, adults and seniors, which we believe is a critical component of the successful strengthening of our island community.”

For more information, members of the public should contact the Mirrors Office at 294.9291 and speak with Miss Todd or email her at jvtodd@gov.bm.
