Hurricane Katia To Pass 260nm To Our West

[Updated] Hurricane Katia is now a potential threat to Bermuda, according to the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS].

BWS forecasters said Katia’s closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 327 nautical miles to the south, at 12pm on Tuesday September 6, 2011.

“Winds and showers will continually increase Monday through Wednesday as Hurricane Katia passes to the distant south to southwest,” said the BWS.

Update Sept.4, 6:30am: On their 6am update the BWS said Katia is downgraded to a tropical storm, remains a potential threat to Bermuda, and its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 318 nm to the south south-west at 6am on Wednesday, September 7th.

In their 5am update, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Katia is carrying maximum sustained winds of 70mph, and is likely to regain hurricane status later today.

Update 3:00pm: Katia has regained strength, and is now a Category 2 hurricane.

Update Sept.5: The BWS said, “Hurricane Katia, still a category 2 storm, is roughly 500 miles to our south-southeast and is a potential threat to Bermuda. Strong winds with occasional gale force gusts ahead of Katia arrive Tuesday and continue through Thursday. Expect showers from Wednesday, and possibly thunder Thursday and Friday.”

Its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 260 nm to the west south-west at 5pm on Wednesday Sept. 7.

    I cant see why every year people buy up all the flashlights. if you buy one or 2 last year….wouldnt you still have it, and wont it still be working. Im had the same flashlight for 4 years…and the most is I buy batteries one a year. I bet you that everytime gorhams and master here hurricane…they LOVE IT…increase in sales.
