Chewstick Continues ‘Reasnin’ Series’

October 3, 2011

headshot walshOn Tuesday, October 4th The Chewstick Foundation will continue its Reasnin’ series, with Michael Walsh.

Michael Walsh will share his experiences and answer questions on the reasons behind his art. He will address the theory of his installation ‘Evoking Nothing’, (2009), which is layers of cardboard wrapped around a void.

The no thing, the not described, became the focus as he moved from searching for context to creating context. Laura Lyons, volunteer facilitator of this project believes that, this session will hinge around why Michael is an artist, how he got there, and what he thinks makes art, art.

She describes Mr Walsh’s work as “ephemeral” and says that, “he makes his art purposefully to be washed away, disintegrate or be taken apart piece by piece”; this aspect of his art will definitely be explored in his Reasnin’ session.

Mr Walsh shared that the intent of his work is to discover context and is based around the theories of experimenting with different mediums and with objects’ relationships to each other.

The discussion will begin in an interview style, with questions fielded by Gavin Smith. Questions will probe into aspects of life and work that has led to the current ideals of Mr Walshl’s work and allow him to take us on a journey of his art, from though to finish. The floor talk will allow participants a chance to ponder what in fact is art and will give a chance to really explore the artist as a revolutionary and social commentator.

The Reasnin’ series is completely free, but donations toward the Chewstick Foundation’s programs and infrastructure are much appreciated.

Each and every person is welcomed to attend on the first Tuesday of every month at the Chewstick Headquarters on the corner of Court Street and Elliot Street. Talks start at 7:00 pm and depending upon the length of the movie and discussion, end around 9 pm.
