Mother’s Love Inspired Bermuda Poet

October 22, 2011

It’s been said mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while but their hearts forever — and the truth of this proverb is borne out in Bermuda poet Erlor E. Dean’s recently published collection of verse, “Mother’s Whispers.”.

The new volume of poetic pieces was inspired by the woman who made Somerset resident Ms Dean better appreciate life’s wonders, great and small, her mother Inez.

While most of the poems pay tribute to mothers and motherhood, this collection’s general theme is about celebrating life and all its beauty.

From capturing moments with a loved one to savoring the best of nature, each piece is an expression of pure emotion on the part of Ms Dean. “The Presents or Presence?” is an eye-opening piece which tells why material possessions can never compensate for the absence of a parent in a child’s heat.

Melancholy in tone, “The Cry From Within the Walls” tells of the emotional torment that goes on behind the cold bars of prison.

The poem “The Ocean” vividly describes the sea’s amazing combination of beauty, might and placidness. And “It’s Okay to be Deaf” is a heartwarming piece about enjoying the delights of life despite the absence of one sense.

Poignant and honest, “Mother’s Whispers” addresses life with a startlingly direct and honest voice.

The book was featured at this week’s 2011 Frankfurt Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 12-16, 2011.

Erlor Dean was born and raised in Bermuda.

Having obtained a Teaching Certificate from Ottawa Teachers’ College, her next pursuit was a Master’s degree from Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts. She now teaches English at a Correctional Facility in Bermuda. It was because of her mother’s love for poetry and language that she was inspired to write.

She says she is blessed to be a member of a supportive family — Ms Dean’s husband ardently encouraged her to publish this latest collection of poetry. Her other hobbies are singing and travelling.

Her other books include “The Ocean”, published by the National Library of Poets, in Owings Mills, Maryland and “A Tribute To Mothers”, published in Bermuda by the Bermuda Poets Association.

“Mothers Whispers” is available at Amazon.com and the Barnes & Noble website as well as at selected Bermuda retailers.
