TechWeek 2011 will be held October 7th – October 15th. Now celebrating its 5th anniversary, TechWeek helps promote and showcase technology in Bermuda that is used by everyone, everywhere every day.

Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors said, “TechWeek is an exciting and important event for all ages in Bermuda. We use technology in some way every day. I encourage everyone to participate in the 2011 Tech Week activities. Come out and celebrate TechWeek’s 5th anniversary.”

This year’s public/private venture includes the Department of E-Commerce, the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative of Bermuda, the Business Technology Division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, AAC Saatchi & Saatchi, W&W Solutions, North Rock Communications, The Complete Office, Butterfield, PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC), Gosling’s, Quo Vadis, the National Office for Seniors and the Physically Challenged, and the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation.

TechWeek will kick off with the TECHSHOWCASE. The public can experience the latest in innovation, products and services, as well as workshops on October 7th and 8th at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Exhibitors will include BHB, Butterfield, CellOne, Digicel, Ignition, Logic, RedLaser, AAC Saatchi and Saatchi, Bermuda Cablevision, Caliper, EasyPark, Gateway Systems, Games and Flix, Greenhouse Bermuda, Macworcs, North Rock, Communications, Precise Systems Integration, QuickFix and Smith Technologies.

TECHSHOWCASE has been organized by the Business Technology Division of the Chamber of Commerce.

On Monday October 10th, the 2011 Apptitude Blackberry Application Development Contest winners will be recognized at a reception sponsored by CellOne, Research in Motion (RIM) and the Ministry of Business Development and Tourism.

Tuesday is TechTuesday. In-School Activities to promote cyber security will be celebrated with the presentation of prizes to primary school winners of the Cyber Cyd Colouring Contest. Additional In-School activities associated with TechWeek include the middle school TECHMUSIC Program and the senior school TECHCAREERS Tour.

Visit www.cybertips.bm for more information. In the evening, a networking and resource sharing opportunity for all primary, middle and senior school teachers involved in technology instruction will take place.

Free workshops will be hosted on Wednesday, October 12th. From 12.00 to 2.00 pm at Cathedral Hall the e-Inclusion and Online Banking workshop will provide free access tools to promote E-Inclusion. Coordinated by the National Office for Seniors and the Physically Challenged in association with Butterfield, this workshop will feature a range of free access tools for your personal computer to provide visual, reading and keyboard/mouse support to improve the planning, organization, and study skills of people with dyslexia, reading difficulties, visual impairments or physical disabilities.

Also on Wednesday, October 12th, at 3.30 pm at the Cathedral Hall an On-Line Business workshop shall be offered. Learn about online payment processing and billing for small business and master the use of social media services to promote yourself and your business. This workshop will be coordinated by Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation and W&W Solutions. That evening the Business Technology Division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce will host a Wired Wednesday Roundtable discussion on Cloud Computing.

At 6.30 pm at the Chamber of Commerce. We invite everyone to attend and hear local experts talk about the use of cloud for consumers and business and the managed services to support it, integration and adoption.

The popular Technology Innovation Awards will take place on Thursday, October 13th. The public have nominated over 100 individuals and businesses that they believed display creative uses and commitment to technology all around us. The awards will be given based on their use of, and commitment to technology.

TechArt is back this year and artists are encouraged to submit their digital photography, graphic art, or electronic illustration to the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSOA). The public is welcome to view the submissions on display at the Gallery at City Hall on October 14th with an awards ceremony beginning at 5pm. Also on Friday afternoon, prior to the opening of the exhibit, AAC Saatchi & Saatchi will open their doors at 3pm for a behind the scenes tour of the creative side of technology.

TechWeek concludes with TedX Bermuda. Created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading,” the TEDx Bermuda program is designed to give Bermudian organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.
