November 21, 2011

Appleby announced that Partner Tim Faries has been appointed Local Group Head of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group in Bermuda.

Mr Faries is also the Global Insurance Group Team Leader and leads a team of lawyers who specialise in all types of non-contentious corporate insurance work, including life and general insurance and reinsurance, mutual insurance and structured risk financing.

Mr Faries joined Appleby in 1993 and became a Partner in 2000. He is the immediate past Global Head of the Private Client and Trusts Practice Group, and in that capacity was recognised amongst the world’s 50 most influential private client practitioners for 2009/10 by Private Client Practitioner magazine.

Mr Faries is endorsed as a leading lawyer in the 2012 IFLR Lawyer Rankings for Finance and Corporate, the 2011 PLC Which Lawyer? directory for Insurance, and top-tier ranked in the 2011 Chambers & Partners and the 2012 Legal 500 Caribbean guides for Insurance.

Global Practice Group Head Judith Collis said “Appleby’s Corporate and Commercial Group Practice is critical to our success and with Tim leading our practice in Bermuda, in addition to heading the Insurance team globally, we are well positioned for continued growth. Tim’s extensive insurance and corporate expertise is highly regarded and I look forward to seeing him further develop the Bermuda practice.”

Kiernan Bell, a Partner and leading litigation practitioner, has also been appointed Local Group Head of the Litigation and Insolvency Practice Group for Bermuda. Kiernan specialises in complex commercial disputes with practice experience spanning professional negligence, hedge fund litigation, hostile takeovers and contentious insolvency, to name a few.

Ms Bell joined Appleby in 1994 and became a Partner in 2002. Kiernan served on the Bermuda Bar Council for over ten years, most recently as the President of the Bar, a position she held until April this year. Kiernan recently gained individual recognition for dispute resolution in the Legal 500 legal directory for the Caribbean 2012 edition.

Global Practice Group Head, Andrew Bolton said “Kiernan is highly respected in her field and I welcome her expertise and leadership of the team in our Bermuda office. She will ensure that the practice group in Bermuda continues to offer outstanding quality of service in litigation and insolvency matters to clients both in Bermuda and globally.”
