Daylight Savings: Time To Fall Back, Bermuda

November 5, 2011

Tonight’s the night Bermuda’s sleep lovers wait all year for —  the end of Daylight Saving Time means a one-hour rollback on the clocks and a precious extra hour of slumber.

Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday [Nov. 6] at 2 a.m. As you set your clocks back one hour this evening, the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service reminds Bermudians to also take the opportunity to make another change that could save lives.

Bermuda’s firefighters are asking you to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Every year, the Ministry of National Security, in conjunction with America’s National Fire Protection Association and fire departments across the US and the UK, takes part in an initiative to educate their communities on fire safety.

This year the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service observed Fire Safety Awareness Week from Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 4, 2011.

And although the week of fire-safety events officially wrapped up yesterday [Nov.4], like their sister departments in the US, Bermuda’s fire service wants homeowners to use the end of Daylight Saving Time as an opportunity to install new batteries in smoke detectors and other monitors.

Why do people always say we get an extra hour of sleep when one can simply, throughout the year at any time, retire 1 hour earlier!!

I’m glad they’ve changed it back. That extra hour of daylight was bleaching my curtains!
