Mz Malz Releases Latest Music Video

November 15, 2011

In the past she’s been praised for “music [that's] sure to get the club jumping” — and “I Do It For My City”, the latest track from Ms Malz [real name Stephanie Blyden], demonstrates she hasn’t lost her knack for upbeat songs.

Named Best Female Rapper at the 2010 Bermuda Underground Music Awards held at the Ruth Seaton James Centre, her latest musical offering was produced by Detrimental, mixed by Shane Woodley, with the video was directed/shot by Fotogenik Films.

The young Bermudian’s love of poetry provided her with a springboard into music two years ago and she cites Alicia Keys, Eve and Missy Elliot among her many influences.

Becoming increasingly well known on the local entertainment circuit for her fusion of hard-driving but melodic R&B, rap and hip hop, self-described workaholic Mz Malz says of herself:  “Initially I began writing poems at the age of seven, but soon after I found a greater passion when I began writing Rap and RnB songs. During my adolescence I continued to improve my skills, I spent a lot of hours writing, recording and developing my rapping skills alone. I even began to produce my own songs on my home computer.”

“At the age of 18, I got the opportunity to record in a recording studio for the first time and I haven’t looked back since. As a female artist, I was really inspired by other artists such as; Missy Elliot and Eve, during her days with the Ruff Ryders. They gave me the confidence to believe that I can succeed in what many would have considered to be a male dominated industry at the time.”

Very catchy tune and lyrics. Good Job Ms. Malz. Moving forward I’d say get some a better supportive entourage.

  2. Just Wondering says:

Hmm nice song… BUT why those indivuals as ya background ppl?! could do wayyy better and what city?! Bermuda is a country made up of 9 parishes…. Just wondering

    • Gabbani says:

I was thinking the same thing, What city? is right she ain’t talking about Bermuda that’s for sure! and those guys in the background she could have done better…….

      • J1 says:

I actually like how Mz Malz kept it real, having her REAL friends in the video, the people (that are also artists) that have helped and continue to help her to be successful.

She has great rapper skills, a nice voice, and a sweet look too. I don’t think she NEEDS the extra frills of supermodels, Mercedes Benz, etc, even though those things could have spiced up the video a bit more, because there are a lot of people that unfortunately think that Hip-Hop means bragging about money and superficial things.

Lots of Hip-Hop artists promote that stereotype, but I like how Mz Malz just focused on showing her talent, despite the lack of superficial props.

  3. malz says:

They are artists,, hype man scotty spectac and rapper “blac” they both grind hard the other guy is my best friend. Lol.. And I said for my city because this is a movement.. We are trying to take it world wide.. You have to open your mind. And I’m not gonna say I do it for my parish.. I do it for bermuda PERIOD. But Thank you for the understandable criticism

  4. jury says:

@ Malz its so nice to see another talented young teen as yourself doing great things. When I first heard your song in rotation one Sunday afternoon I thought it was an American artist. Proud to learn that you are Bermudian. You have a very unique sound to your voice.

Remember for those who critize or comment take it as constructive criticism because its makes you work harder and become better.

For those of you who questioned “WHAT CITY” our capital is called “THE CITY OF HAMILTON.

Yes the video with your friends was “ordinary” would have been nice to see you being filmed walking through the City of Hamilton looking pretty. LOL

    Keep up the good work!!!!

  5. jury says:

    Correction “talented Young LADY”

  6. Malz says:

@jury Thank you!! i appreciate it! xx and i feel you its so much i wanted to do but this shoot was kind of restricted,, the next one will be off the chain! thanx for the love and support

  7. James says:

I’m not as young as you guys are and rap is certainly not my favorite music, but I like this song of yours. Not exactly sure what you’re talking about but the melody is cool and it sticks in your head. Good for you!! Much luck!!

A little advice from me (and I don’t know a THING about music) would be to study/learn what the best music videos show and perhaps more importantly DON’T show so that your next venture will be that much better. I didn’t and don’t get the dudes in the background, but again I am old so what do I know. But I would have thought if anyone is behind you while you perform that they would actually do or sing something other than just walk behind you. If they could perform a chorus or dance back there, then I would say it would be better.

    Good Luck Malz!! Keep striving!!

  8. Plat says:

I agree with Jury!! It’s soo refreshing to see our young people using their talents in a positive manner. We are so quick to pull eash other down like crabs in a bucket, than lift each other up soo we can all put ourselves on and Bermuda on the map!!! Bermuda is a melting pot of hidden talent. I think you did a excellent job your rhythm was catchy and you can with some tight lyrics!!! The video was nice quality….Big up my boy Shawn doing big things also!!! Bermuda has the resources and I encourage all talented individuals to pursue their passion always!! Good Luck
