Swan Pays Tribute To Golfer Eric Parker

November 16, 2011

A memorial service for the late Mr. Eric Norman Parker, former president of the Bermuda Golf Association, will be held at Christ Church, Warwick today [Nov.16] at 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Parker died recently at the age of 89.

“My condolences to the family of the late Eric N. Parker from Warwick,” said former Bermuda professional golfer Kim Swan. “The Parker family — especially his widow, Muriel, as the former secretary of the Bermuda Golf Association and son Geoff who pioneered Junior Golf in Bermuda — have done a lot of good organising and promoting the sport on the island.

The late Eric Parker was a former President of both the Bermuda Golf association and the Belmont Golf Club. Mr Swan said he especially loved to ensure that Bermuda’s golf courses were properly maintained; in this regard he was an integral part of the Port Royal trustees in the ’70s where he was chairman of the Links/Agronomy Committee.

“He was a good player and an excellent putter and that helped immensely when he and I partnered and won the Senior-Junior Championship in the early 1970s.”

Mr. Swan said he hoped Mr. Parker’s family would find comfort during their bereavement.
