Upcoming: Get Steeped With Fairmont

November 10, 2011

Pinkies up! From San Francisco and Shanghai to our little island of Bermuda, Fairmont has a of serving some of the best afternoon tea in town, and has declared this Saturday [Nov.12] as an “official” day to pay tribute to all things tea. Get Steeped with Fairmont festivities will take place around the world including at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess and The Fairmont Southampton.

“Afternoon tea in Bermuda is as celebrated as the island’s beautiful pink sand beaches,” said Shelley Meszoly, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing for Fairmont Bermuda. “So we are happy to offer a taste of both on Tea Day and we encourage ladies to wear their hats for this special occasion.”

Praised by The New York Times as having the best afternoon tea in Bermuda, The Fairmont Hamilton Princess is proud to celebrate Tea Day. The hotel will be hosting a special Tea Dance from 2:30pm to 5pm in the Gazebo room. Guests will be jazzed about sampling a variety of autumn teas and treats along with the smooth and easy sounds of entertainment by the Wayne Davis Trio Band.

In addition to a selection of pastries including scones, lemon curd tartlets, fruit cakes, assorted fruit slices, marble and pound cakes, chocolate éclairs, fresh fruit tarts and chocolate cups, the Tea Dance buffet will offer an assortment of tea sandwiches such as herbed cream cheese and cucumber and curried chicken and fresh mango with crisp arugula on bruschetta.

“We are thrilled to participate in Tea Day,” said Rehanna Palumbo, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess. “Tea was popularized by Queen Victoria whose daughter Princess Louise provided the inspiration for the name Hamilton Princess after her visit to Bermuda in 1883, so the custom of tea in the afternoon has always been a signature event of the hotel.”

The Fairmont Southampton will be holding “Tea on The Beach” on the Ocean Club terrace from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday. Guests will be treated to a four-course tea pairing. The first course will be fresh fruit served with an Oceantini cocktail; the second course will be Jasmine Butterfly (the official Fairmont Southampton Tea) on the rocks, served with a warm scone; the third course will consist of a loose-leaf blend tea with traditional finger sandwiches; and the final course will be Kea Lani Orange Pineapple tea with pastries including the hotel’s own Gosling’s Rum Cake.

In addition, guests are encouraged to demonstrate the spirit of afternoon tea by wearing their favourite hats which will be assessed by a panel of local “celebrity” judges including Sherri Simmons of Magic 102.7’s “The Sherri Simmons Show” and Nikita Robinson of Hott 107.5’s “The Ladies Room” for a prize.

The cost for either event is $39 for adults and $25 for children ages 5 to 12 plus 17 per cent gratuities. Children under 5 are free. For more information or to make reservations call The Fairmont Hamilton Princess on 298-5779 or The Fairmont Southampton on 238-8000.
