November 5, 2011

Bermudians were advised to always expect the unexpected by the island’s Fire & Rescue Service this week.

Every year, the Ministry of National Security, in conjunction with America’s National Fire Protection Association, fire departments across the United States and the United Kingdom participate in an initiative to educate their communities on fire safety.

This year Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service observed Fire Safety Awareness Week from Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 4, 2011.

The theme this year was “Protect Your Family From Fire.”

“The community was invited to come and participate in the week’s activities and to receive valuable home fire safety tips,” said a spokesman.

At the closing ceremonies yesterday [Nov. 4] at the Hamilton Fire Station, certificates of merit were handed out to Bermuda school children who participated in the annual essay and poster contests held in conjunction with Fire Safety Awareness Week.
