Man Arrested After Front St Accident

December 12, 2011

A 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday [Dec.11] after failing an alco-analyser test. He was stopped after police officers spotted him riding away “in an erratic manner” after being involved in an accident with a taxi on Front Street.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 3:15am on Sunday December 11th, uniformed officers were on duty along Front Street in the City of Hamilton when it appeared that a collision occurred between a rental cycle and a taxi. Afterwards, the rider of the rental cycle rode away in an erratic manner.

“As a result the rider, a 31 year old Devonshire man, was stopped by police and arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. He subsequently failed the alco-analyser test and was detained in police custody. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.”

In addition, this past weekend police officers arrested 17 people for outstanding warrants, and investigated two firearm incidents.

The second weekend shooting was in the Devonshire area at 12.30am on December 11, which was only 90 minutes after a drive-by shooting in Somerset which saw the gunmen escape after a police chase.

The two firearm incidents follow 72 hours after a shooting at the Dandy Town sports club on St. John’s Road in Pembroke on December 8. No one was injured in any of the incidents.
