This evening [Dec.26] the Bermuda Police Service named the young man who died on Christmas Eve as 18-year-old Kevin Gonsalves Ledo of Pembroke.

On Saturday morning [Dec.24] Mr Ledo was doing landscaping work at a Warwick residence when he received an electrical shock after an accident. He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where he was pronounced dead at 1:20pm.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 18 year old Kevin Gonsalves Ledo of Pembroke. Around 11:45am on Saturday, December 24th police responded to a reported industrial accident at a Smiths Avenue, Warwick residence.

“It appears that Mr. Ledo was working as a landscaper on the property when he received an electrical shock. He was given CPR by EMTs at the scene before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 1:20pm Saturday by an on call physician.

“There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances; however an autopsy is anticipated and inquiries are ongoing. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Ledo.”

Premier Paula Cox said, “I am confident that I speak for the whole of Bermuda in extending heart-felt condolences and our thoughts to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life.”

Opposition Leader Craig Cannonier also extended his condolences, saying: “What a tragedy! My colleagues and I send our thoughts and prayers to the young man’s family. We are so sorry for your loss.”

A Facebook page “RIP Kevin Ledo” was started shortly after the teenager’s death on Saturday afternoon, with a simple note saying, “Kevin Ledo died December 24th 2011. He will be in all of our prayers.”
