Teen Arrested After Police Chase/Crash

December 15, 2011

[Updated] A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the accident that occurred yesterday [Dec.14] after a police chase.

Around 11:30am yesterday, police were on mobile patrol when they encountered a white car traveling at speed along Ord Road. Police pursued the car on to Middle Road in Paget, where the driver collided with another car, before finally crashing into a wall near Tanglewood Road.

The occupants abandoned the car and tried to escape on foot, however a search of the area resulted in police arresting of a 17 year old Paget man in connection with this incident.

A Police spokesperson said, “Around 11:30am on Wednesday, December 14th police were on mobile patrol in the Cobbs Hill Road, Warwick area when they encountered a white car traveling at speed along Ord Road.

“The officers activated the police vehicle’s emergency equipment; however the offending vehicle did not stop. Police pursued the white car on to Middle Road in Paget, where the driver of the fleeing vehicle collided with another car near Manse Road, before finally colliding with a wall near Tanglewood Road.

“The occupants abandoned the extensively damaged vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. A subsequent search of the area resulted in the arrest of a 17 year old Paget man in connection with this incident. The driver of the other car involved in the initial collision was not injured and his vehicle received moderate damage.

“Traffic was diverted away from the scene as a result but that section of Middle Road, Paget was later re-opened. Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information regarding this matter is encouraged to contact the main police number 295-0011.

Update Dec.16: The Bermuda Police Service is continuing its appeal for witnesses to this collision, and said the 17 year old man arrested has been released on police bail.

“It is believed that there were three other men in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Police are encouraging any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the main police number on 295-0011,” said a police spokesperson.

  1. solution man says:

mark that guy, he is 0 benefit to society

    • hammer time says:

Suck an egg solution man, you idiots are so quick to throw people in a hole, let this just be a lesson learned for him. You don’t know him personally or anything about his life so leave your negative comments for your wife.

      • all clogged up says:

don’t have to know him….17 yr old shouldn’t be driving a car……if he had killed someone you wouldn’t be so quick to talk

      • Mad Dawg says:

I hope they tasered his a$$

      • St. Davids says:

@ hammer time – If you have to do something of this sort to learn a lesson about the rights and wrongs of society there is something seriously wrong!! Nothing going on in this 17yr olds life is worth fleeing from the cops unless you are guilty of some crime or have something to hide. Solution Mans’ comments were lenient, lock this punk up!!! The quicker we throw him in a hole the sooner we won’t have to worry about idiots like this crashing into us innocent bystanders!! Nor will the police have to risk their lives in pursuit of some young punk out on a joy ride, most likely fleeing the scene of a crime!! Now hammer time go put on some lose 1980’s work out pants and suck a nut!

      • drunkenUrsula says:

I hope they beat him good n proper…sick of the rats,(gangsters) taking over our island….death to them….

      • Honestly says:

I solely agree…I’ve just about turned off from the negativity on public sites. So quick to judge…lets see who can cast the first stone of solution for the 17 year old!

  2. Terry says:

    What was he arrested for.

  3. smith says:

what was he charged for? hmmmmm lets see…driving under the age limit, no insurance, due care, failing to stop, hit and run, evading police. Probably f’ed them off when captured so whats that – assault?

    • The Fact says:

All plausible charges if they can prove he was actually driving. May just get resisting arrest.

    • Jen says:

You’re jumping to a conclusion, it does not state what the young man was charged with or if he has been charged at all….

  4. Terry says:

My point was, nothing has been said if he was the driver. Thus my comment.

    • Babs says:

Quite right, the article doesn’t say if he was the driver or not. In any event, lets hope that punishment is received by those who deserve it, and be thankful that no one was injured.

  5. k says:

its really sad when people can support STUPIDITY !!!!!!

  6. HMMM HMMMMM says:

    Guilty by association!

  7. CURIOUS says:

@ Honestly , A stone of solution? How about wait untill everything there is to know about what is happening here come out before offering punishment . Once the facts are known , 1 ) the 17 year old driver faces a charge of driving without a drivers licence , Agreed? that is only the begining . What is next will depend on the facts . There is however always a problem with the final punishment which seems to go without mention . When anyone I mean amyone damages or steals from another person ; restitution is should be made . Lets take the damages of the vehicals , the judicial system does not tell the defendants found guilty to make amends – repair the cars bikes or even pay the money back . there are really no consequences . They either get a slap on the wrist or they do a little time and when done go out and do it again and not make amends . there you are . I dont believe that incarseration is the ultimate answer to all problems . It has it’s place .
It is what it is .

  8. BERMYGUY says:

POINT 1) IT NEVER SAID HE WAS THE DRIVER IT ONLY STATES A 17 YR OLD OCCUPANT WAS ARRESTED STOP MAKING ASSUMPTIONS

POINT 2) LET THE POLICE N THOSE THAT GET PAID TO DO THIS, SOLVE THIS. TIRED OF EVERYONE TRYNA ACT LIKE THE POLICE AND MAKE UP CONCLUSIONS BEFORE AN INVESTIGATION IS DONE.
