Officials Receive Report On Kayaker

[Updated - Officials clarify statement and say the term "missing" isn't applicable ] Officials at the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre confirmed they received a report this afternoon [Jan 7] that a kayaker appears to have gone missing. At approximately 3pm a member of public reported the man as missing, after last having seen him in waters in the Astwood Cove area.

As of 8pm this evening, officials said they had not received further information, nor had they received further reports that the person was missing. They declined to give further information as the situation is ongoing.

Update: After originally confirming to Bernews that they received a report of a missing kayaker, the officials contacted us to clarify it. A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said the facts are that a member of the public had called from the Astwood Cove area and said they saw a kayaker that “may” have needed some assistance but they lost sight of them. There was no actual report of a “missing kayaker” as a spokesperson had originally said.
