Man Charged With Setting Fire

February 13, 2012

In Magistrates Court this morning [Feb.13], 49-year-old Dunavin Nesbitt was charged with setting fire to his brother’s building. Because the charge is indictable and can only be heard in Supreme Court, he was not required to enter a plea.

The offence was alleged to have occurred at a residence in Orchard Grove Pembroke on the evening of 8th February 2012. Mr Nesbitt was said to have been allowed to occupy a room in the residence.

Senior Magistrate denied the DPP’s request that Nesbitt should be held in custody. Instead, the Magistrate granted bail of $10,000 with one like Surety; ordered that Mr Nesbitt should not interfere with any witnesses; and should report daily to Hamilton Police Station.

Mr Nesbitt commented to the Magistrate that he would have difficulty in getting someone to stand Surety. The Magistrate made no reply.
