2012 Validus’ ‘Running Of The Bulls’ 5K

Validus Reinsurance, Ltd., a Bermuda based reinsurance company and member of the Validus Group of Companies, announced today that registration for its Inaugural “Running of the Bulls” 5K Run/Walk is now open.

The event is being held in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club [MAAC] in support of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda on Sunday, February 26.

“We are delighted to be supporting the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda for this important fundraiser and hope to make this an annual event,” said Conan M. Ward, Validus Re’s Chief Executive Officer. “The Run/Walk provides loads of fun for the whole community—and whether you come for the workout or to show your support, you are sure to have a great time and a truly memorable day.”

He added: “We are proud to support more than 40 charitable grant programmes in the local community, and the Running of the Bulls 5K Run/Walk is an important part of that effort.”

The race is inspired by the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Several elite runners (“the Bulls”) will have a delayed start and will try to catch the rest of the runners before the finish line.

Race participants have the option of choosing the 5-kilometer run or walk. There will be prizes awarded to the best runner or competitive walker in their age bracket and t-shirts for the first 200 registrants who pick up their race numbers.

The Mid Atlantic Athletic Club registration fee is $27 for MAAC members, $32 for non-members and reduced rates for MAAC Gold members and recreational walkers. Deadline for paper registration is 4:30 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 to Sportseller, Washington Mall; or online registration by 5:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2012.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda is a mentoring programme dedicated to helping children and youth, primarily from single parent homes, realize their potential by facilitating the development of long-term one-to-one relationships.
